Gyukatsu spot at Seoul Station: solo set, half-butter grill, Ichigyu

Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch (이치규 서울역점) is a gyukatsu (breaded beef cutlet) restaurant in the basement food court of the LG Seoul Station Building, in front of Seoul Station Exit 10 in Jung-gu, Seoul. On a weekday when a lunch plan was cancelled, the writer ate the one-person striploin gyukatsu set alone, grilling half with Isigny butter and half without to compare. Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch is easy for solo diners and serves fresh beef, making it a recommended lunch near Seoul Station.

Seoul Station sandwich shop on a rainy day, leftover half to go: Dance

Dance Dance Dance Seoul Station is a sandwich and coffee shop on B3 of Grand Central, right by Exit 4 of Seoul Station in Jung-gu, Seoul. While waiting for a train on a rainy weekend, the writer ordered a jambon jalapeño sandwich on ciabatta and an iced oat milk latte, ate half the sandwich and had the other half packed to go. With its spicy sandwich and not-too-sweet latte, Dance Dance Dance is a great sandwich stop near Seoul Station before boarding a train.

Munhwa Bakery (문화제빵) is a takeout-only bakery on Donhwamun-ro in Jongno, Seoul, between Jongno 3-ga Station and Ikseon-dong. Around 3 p.m. on a weekday, the writer picked up mugwort rice cake bread, walnut bread and white bean paste bread from Munhwa Bakery to share at a friend's home, and all three were good. Verdict: both the writer and the friend named Munhwa Bakery's mugwort rice cake bread the best of the three.

Busanjin Korean restaurant: iced pollack yukhoe mulhoe, Hyangtaek

Hyangtaek Jeonpo Branch is a Korean restaurant in Busanjin, Busan, near the former NC Department Store, and it grew out of the original shop in Daegu's Gyodong Market. Over a weekday lunch with her mother, the writer ordered mackerel thistle rice (samchi gondre bap) and pollack yukhoe mulhoe (raw pollack in chilled broth), and the jeotgal (salted seafood) and gungchae pickles came back piled high when refilled. The mulhoe, served in broth thick with ice crystals, disappeared in minutes on a hot day, and the soy-sauce seasoning on the mackerel thistle rice was the dish that stuck.
