Where is Dugeundugeun Sutbulgalbi in Daegu, and what kind of place is it?
Dugeundugeun Sutbulgalbi (두근두근숯불갈비) is a charcoal BBQ restaurant at 69 Nobyeon-ro, Suseong-gu, Daegu, on the block next to Daegu Agricultural Meister High School, near Sinmae Station. They sell all kinds of meat, from marinated pork galbi to pork belly and pork neck, so it's good for a galbi craving and also for a group meat night out.
I was wondering what to eat on a weekend evening when I suddenly craved marinated pork galbi, so off I went. There are lots of apartment complexes nearby, and it seemed like a lot of families come here.
- Address: 69 Nobyeon-ro, Suseong-gu, Daegu
- Hours: 16:00–23:00
- Parking: there's no lot of its own, so I think you park in the alleys around it
They're also running a Naver receipt review event, so join in and get a freebie~

Inside Dugeundugeun Sutbulgalbi: atmosphere and self-serve corner
The inside has that typical BBQ-joint feel, but it's pleasant and clean. It doesn't look like it's been open very long.

The mood is right for a drink after work, and I think it would also suit a weekend meat dinner with the family. It really has that neighborhood-favorite feel.

The self-serve corner was neatly organized too. If you run out of side dishes, sauce or bowls, you can just help yourself, which I liked. The whole place felt well kept and comfortable to eat in, so I was happy with it.

Dugeundugeun Sutbulgalbi menu and how to order by tablet
You order by tablet, and the first order has to be at least 3 servings of one menu item. The meats are marinated galbi, fresh pork belly, fresh pork neck, Korean beef brisket (chadolbagi) and Korean beef ribeye, and for meals you can order naengmyeon (cold noodles), noodles, doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew), steamed rice, fried egg and sundubu jjigae (soft tofu stew).
I ordered 3 servings of pork galbi. At 200g per serving it's a lot of meat and seemed like really great value. The pork belly looked so good too, but I was too full to eat any, sadly. Next time it's pork belly, let's go~~^^

Side dishes and the free runny fried egg
As soon as I ordered, they laid out lettuce and the basic side dishes in no time~ It's been a while since I grilled marinated pork galbi over charcoal, so I was excited. Meat really does taste best at a BBQ place, haha

The lettuce and side dishes were clean and tasty. If you run short, you can easily grab more from the self-serve corner, which was nice.

The surprising part is that a fried egg comes as a standard freebie. They cooked it properly runny, and why is it so good~ haha

How do you grill marinated pork galbi over charcoal at Dugeundugeun Sutbulgalbi?
The 3 servings of galbi were a generous amount, and the meat quality looked good. When you put the marinated pork galbi on the charcoal, I think it's best to flip it often so it doesn't burn.
Once it's cooked through a bit, cut it into bite-size pieces and keep grilling with focus until it turns golden brown.

Not-too-sweet pork galbi marinade with a soy sauce dip
The marinated pork galbi here tastes clean rather than artificially sweet, so I could keep eating it happily without feeling weighed down. With pork galbi, if the marinade is too strong or sweet you sometimes get tired of it after a few pieces, but that didn't happen here.

A subtle charcoal aroma made it even better, and I liked the tender, mild flavor. It's good on its own, but dipped in the soy sauce it was even better.

Wrap it in lettuce or pair it with the various side dishes and it's even better. The side dishes were so good that I enjoyed the meat with lots of different flavors.

You could clearly taste the good meat quality. The bone parts were cooked through and tasty too, and of course the meat on the bone is the best, haha. There was no gamey smell or off-taste either, which I was happy about. If you want marinated pork galbi in this neighborhood, I'd recommend Dugeundugeun Sutbulgalbi.

Free soft tofu stew: order a bowl of rice
The sundubu jjigae (soft tofu stew) comes free here, and its spicy, kick-in-the-throat flavor was hugely appealing. Take a spoonful of broth between bites of galbi and it goes really well.
Marinated galbi can't go without steamed rice~ When you eat the spicy tofu stew, I'd definitely recommend ordering rice with it!! It's a real rice thief, haha
Verdict: who is Dugeundugeun Sutbulgalbi right for?
Dugeundugeun Sutbulgalbi is a BBQ restaurant where you can enjoy a range of meats, centered on marinated pork galbi. I loved the clean-tasting galbi, and the free fried egg and tofu stew were really charming too. A self-serve bar and good-value meat~~ If you're looking for a BBQ place in Sigi or a restaurant in Suseong-gu where you can have meat and stew together, keep Dugeundugeun Sutbulgalbi in mind!!
