Insadong gomtang restaurant solo lunch with table seasoning: Wolhadong
In short
Wolhadong is a hanok pork gomtang (pork bone soup) restaurant in an alley off Insadong 8-gil near Ssamziegil in Jongno, Seoul. Dining alone, I ordered the signature Wolha Gomtang by table QR and got a milky, rich broth with no gamey smell and plenty of pork, then used the seasoning kept on the table to make it spicy to taste. Nothing about Wolhadong is harsh on the stomach, which makes it an easy lunch pick in Insadong.

I had a hearty pork gomtang (pork bone soup) for lunch in Insadong 'ㅁ' I really love gomtang and gukbap (soup with rice) in general, and this place stood out for its broth that was both clean and rich — a satisfying lunch.
Even on hot days like these, you can't skip a bowl of hot soup, right? The taste was mild and not heavy at all, which made my stomach feel comfortable — I loved that even more.
Insadong has a lot of tourists and foreign visitors, so there are tons of Korean restaurants, but this gomtang place lets you eat somewhere clean and stylish while still guaranteeing the taste. Highly recommend it. As a gomtang lover myself, here's my satisfying, clean Insadong lunch review.

Where is Wolhadong? An alley off Ssamziegil in Insadong
Wolhadong sits right off Ssamziegil in Insadong, so it's really easy to get to! Highly recommended for travelers too. Walking down this alley, you'll spot the Wolhadong sign.

Familiar gukak (traditional Korean music) starts playing right from the entrance. The atmosphere is so nice!

Inside Wolhadong: a hanok that suits solo diners and groups
Overall, Wolhadong's interior was clean and tidy. It has a quiet, refined feel — even a simple meal feels upscale here. It seemed like a great Insadong lunch spot whether you're eating alone, with a group, or on a date.

Ordering Wolha Gomtang by table QR code
Since I came alone, I sat down and ordered conveniently through the table QR code. I went with the signature Wolha Gomtang! Looking at the menu, there were a lot of dishes meant to pair with traditional liquor too.

When the gomtang arrived, it looked seriously appetizing. The broth was milky and rich, loaded with meat, so it felt really filling! It was already seasoned, but if you want more, you can add the seasoning provided on the table — you can even make it spicy.
What I liked most was that my stomach didn't feel heavy afterward. A lot of gukbap or gomtang places these days can be a bit too salty or greasy, but Wolhadong's pork gomtang stayed light while still having deep flavor, so I could enjoy it all the way to the last spoonful. If you prefer clean, mild food over intense flavors, you'll probably like this even more.
The atmosphere was relaxed too, good for eating solo or grabbing lunch with coworkers without any pressure. Looking around at the other tables, I saw everyone from office workers to families with kids, so it seemed like a menu that's hard to dislike no matter your age.
Personally, I felt the biggest strength was how solid the basics were. It's not a flashy dish, but the carefully simmered broth, the generous meat, and well-fermented kimchi together made for a fully satisfying meal. If you want to fill up during a busy lunch break, this is the kind of place that'll come to mind.
After finishing my bowl, I felt full and warmed up all over, which made me even more satisfied. If you're deciding what to eat for lunch near Wolhadong, I recommend the pork gomtang. If you're a fan of soupy dishes like me, I'm sure you'll enjoy it too. 😊🍲✨

How Wolha Gomtang tastes: clean broth, tender pork
I took a spoonful of the broth first, and there was no gamey pork smell at all — really clean. But it wasn't bland either; a gentle, deep umami kept pulling me back for more.
There was more meat than I expected, and it was cooked soft, not tough at all — even better eaten together with the broth. The kimchi and kkakdugi (diced radish kimchi) on the side went really well with the gomtang too. They were fermented just right with great umami, and eating them in between bites made the broth's flavor come through even more.

Who should eat at Wolhadong in Insadong?
Overall, the flavor isn't intense, so anyone can enjoy it without worry. I'd especially recommend it to people looking for a lunch that's easy on the stomach or who love soupy dishes.
I really love pork gukbap and pork gomtang, and among those, I especially love the clear kind of gomtang and gukbap — this was clean, filling, and free of gamey smell, right up my alley! It's a great place to visit when you want to fill up on something hearty and enjoy clean Korean food. Recommended as an Insadong lunch spot!
