Bakery café near Starfield Suwon with raspberry egg tart: Lapelina

In short

Lapelina Pâtisserie is a bakery café in Jangan-gu, Suwon, near Starfield Suwon, where a Lenôtre-trained owner makes the desserts in-house. On an evening visit the plain egg tart had already sold out, so we had the raspberry egg tart and the Paris-Brest with coffee, and the tangy-sweet raspberry filling and nutty almond cream stood out. If you want an egg tart that tastes different from the usual, Lapelina Pâtisserie is a good choice.

Lapelina Pâtisserie (라펠리나) is a café near Starfield Suwon where an owner trained at a French pastry school makes the desserts. Since I've been busy raising a baby, I've been craving really good desserts lately. Rather than just drinking coffee, I wanted something sweet and tasty alongside it, and while searching I found Lapelina, which is known for its desserts.

What desserts does Lapelina Pâtisserie sell?

The showcase holds a wide range of desserts, from egg tarts to baked goods and cakes. As you'd expect from a dessert shop, just browsing is fun.

I went in the evening, so a lot was already gone, but everything left looked delicious and I agonized over what to eat for ages. I'd come for good desserts, and with so many kinds, picking just one wasn't easy.

It was a shame the plain egg tart had sold out, but there were plenty of other flavors! You can pick whichever suits your taste.

You can look over the baked goods and cakes too, so anyone who loves desserts should be happy here. There were lots of kinds I haven't seen elsewhere! Next time I want to try the other ones, one by one.

Lapelina Pâtisserie drinks: coffee and tea menu

The coffee menu was varied too. From an Americano that goes well with desserts to lattes and other drinks, you can choose to suit your taste. I especially liked that there were so many teas!

One reason I was extra curious about Lapelina is that the owner is a graduate of Le Nôtre, the French pastry school!

What does Lapelina's raspberry egg tart taste like?

The first dessert I tried at Lapelina was the raspberry egg tart. I like sweet desserts in general, but I prefer ones with a fresh, tangy note over ones that are just heavy.

Doesn't it look so pretty!

Look of the raspberry egg tart

It's an egg tart with raspberry, so I was excited to see how it would taste. And the layered pastry made it feel even more delicious!

The raspberry egg tart adds the sweet-tart flavor of raspberry to that soft, sweet egg tart filling, giving it a different charm from an ordinary egg tart. It isn't sweetness all the way through; the fresh tang makes it a good match with coffee. The combo of crisp tart shell and soft filling was part of the fun of eating it, too.

Is Lapelina's Paris-Brest worth ordering?

The other dessert I tried was the Paris-Brest (a ring-shaped choux pastry filled with cream). It looked so appetizing right away. Plenty of cream sits in the middle, with a nutty-looking topping on top, so I couldn't wait to taste it.

One bite and the soft almond cream and crisp texture came together in a really fun way. With all those textures, it's not just a sweet dessert; maybe because it's nutty, it was even more appealing!

With coffee, the sweetness got cleanly balanced out, so they went together well.
