Grilled salmon skin seconds at Pohang conveyor sushi: Hojueseo

In short

Hojueseo on Hoejeon Chobap is a new flat-rate conveyor sushi restaurant on Namwon-ro in Ocheon-eup, Nam-gu, Pohang, where every plate costs 2,200 won, from salmon and abalone to wagyu, eel and grilled yukhoe (seasoned raw beef). A weekday evening visit meant a 20-minute wait, then a bar seat using both the conveyor lane and the table tablet, and the grilled salmon skin sushi and grilled yukhoe sushi were worth grabbing twice. Hojueseo suits light eaters who find sushi buffets too much.

Today I want to introduce a newly opened sushi spot in Mundeok, Pohang! I usually just eat at sushi buffets, but I wanted to try dining out in a different way, so while searching for good conveyor sushi in Pohang, I found this new place in Mundeok.

Where is Hojueseo in Mundeok, Pohang, and where do you park?

Hojueseo on Hoejeon Chobap is located at 74 Namwon-ro, Ocheon-eup, Nam-gu, Pohang-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do, 1st floor, and there's a parking lot right in front of the restaurant. I usually prefer sashimi over meat, and since I had errands nearby in Mundeok, I didn't want to travel far again — the accessibility here was great.

I don't usually worry about parking in Mundeok, Pohang, but having a lot right in front made things even more convenient at Hojueseo on Hoejeon Chobap. Since it's a new hot spot, I figured weekends would be packed, so I visited on a weekday instead.

How long is the wait? 20 minutes on a weekday evening, with massage chairs

Maybe because it's newly opened, Hojueseo on Hoejeon Chobap had a clean interior, which I liked. Even on a weekday evening there were plenty of customers, so I waited about 20 minutes.

You can register for the wait in advance through the Catch Table app, so I'd recommend checking it before you head over.

There's a bar table as well as regular 4-person tables — I saw solo diners and families alike. Being the hot spot that it is, there's a waiting area too, and get this — massage chairs in a sushi restaurant?! I hate waiting, but a massage chair while I wait is a whole different story haha.

How ordering works: the conveyor lane and the table tablet

Once you sit down wherever you like, they bring you udon broth in a cup. And then, the thrilling sight of sushi plates going round and round. There were so many kinds that just deciding what to grab as it passed by was fun in itself.

Besides picking things off the conveyor lane, you can also order exactly what you want using the tablet at your table, so there's no need to worry too much.

Watching the plates go by is fun, and if what you want isn't in sight, you can just order it — no regrets there. I could see why people are willing to wait for this place.

Every plate is 2,200 won, one flat price

The biggest feature of Hojueseo on Hoejeon Chobap, this go-to spot in Mundeok, Pohang, is that every plate is ₩2,200. Places where prices vary by plate can feel stressful, but here, it's easy to just come and eat as much as you want without worrying about the bill.

I know women who eat light and actually prefer eating well but in small amounts, which is why they don't like sushi buffets — and to think a sushi restaurant like this, where you can eat exactly as much as you want without pressure, even for solo dining, exists in Mundeok. Highly recommend it to anyone in Mundeok, Pohang, wondering about solo conveyor sushi.

What's on the menu: tempura, futomaki and egg sushi

Even the same menu item can vary slightly in portion size, so I picked carefully with an eagle eye. The tempura looked great visually. People were eating a lot of that futomaki (thick seaweed roll). The shrimp menu seemed popular — they kept making more.

I have a friend who, whenever we eat sushi, only eats the egg sushi — seeing this reminded me of her haha. If you want it warm, just ask them to heat it up for you!

The variety here is really impressive. Starting with salmon, which I love, plus abalone, wagyu, grilled yukhoe, eel, and more. I used to only like red sashimi, but lately I've been enjoying the white fish ones too — they're rich and delicious.

And since you can get tired of sashimi after a while, it's nice that you can mix in meat options too, plus tempura and snacks that work well as dessert — your mouth never gets bored.

I also saw quite a few people eating rolls and gunkan (battleship sushi).

I liked that the rice portion wasn't excessive. I'm not a fan of sushi with too much rice, so this was just right for me. And the rice wasn't too vinegary, which I was a fan of.

Salmon gamtae roll, eel and grilled salmon skin: the plates I took twice

At Hojueseo on Hoejeon Chobap, the two things I picked up a second time were the grilled salmon skin sushi and the grilled yukhoe sushi. The salmon gamtae (dried laver) roll had a lot of good reviews, and after trying it, the sauce combination seemed perfectly suited to Korean tastes.

Sushi with lots of sauce and avocado really hit the spot when I got tired of plain sashimi.

Eel is a menu item that of course can't be anything but delicious.

This grilled salmon skin sushi? It's genuinely delicious. Rich, savory, and so good that I ate it twice.

Among the meat options, this grilled yukhoe had a crispy, fried-like texture, which made it feel more like a proper meal, so I ordered it again too.

Is Hojueseo worth it? Final verdict

My top two picks were these two items. The sauce combinations were so well done that even a kid's palate could enjoy this place. As someone who loves dessert — karaage, macarons, pineapple — it was great having so much variety in a buffet-style setup.

I'd recommend Hojueseo on Hoejeon Chobap, this conveyor sushi spot in Mundeok, Pohang, to anyone looking for good-value sushi. It's especially great for people who normally eat small portions and find sushi buffets too much. There was quite a wait even at 8pm on a weekday, so I'd recommend making a reservation before heading over.
