Negitoro donburi and sake pairing at Ilpum, a Seocho Japanese spot
In short
Ilpum Gangnam Branch is a kaisendon and Japanese restaurant on the B1 floor of Seocho Town Trapalace, near Gangnam Station in Seocho, Seoul. Kaisendon (26,000 won) and ilpum-don (30,000 won) arrived with Gokigen-cho sake poured into a wooden masu cup (6,000 won), and the meal ran like a course from chawanmushi to a complimentary cold udon and mango pudding. The umami of the kelp-aged sashimi and the sake pairing make Ilpum Gangnam Branch an easy choice for both a date and a solo dinner.

Today I visited a place near Gangnam Station where you can enjoy high-quality kaisendon (seafood rice bowl) and clean, refined Japanese food — Ilpum Gangnam Branch! The visuals, the taste, the atmosphere were all so upscale that I found myself thinking, "I'm definitely coming back here." This is a real find, so let me get into my honest review!
Where is Ilpum Gangnam Branch, and when is it open?
Ilpum Gangnam Branch is at 23 Seocho-daero 74-gil, B1 106, Seocho-gu, Seoul, on the basement floor of Seocho Town Trapalace. Hours are Mon-Sat 11:00-21:30 with a break time from 15:00-17:30, and it's closed every Sunday. Parking is available for 1 hour.

Inside Ilpum Gangnam Branch: a calm, low-lit dining room
The restaurant sits on the basement level of Seocho Town Trapalace, and it was pretty easy to find.

Right as you walk in, a bright, calm wood-tone interior greets you! There's an open sushi-bar-style counter with bar seats, so you can watch the chefs make sashimi and rice bowls right in front of you.

Further inside, there are also spacious table seats, so the vibe works well whether you're eating alone, on a date, or with a group.

One wall was filled with framed autographs from celebrities and public figures, which raised my expectations even more haha.
The menu at Ilpum and what we ordered

That day I ordered the two signature menu items, kaisendon and ilpum-don, plus a glass of Gokigen-cho sake to enjoy alongside them!

1. Appetizer: chawanmushi (savory steamed egg custard)
After ordering, a neatly arranged set of side dishes came out along with the basic steamed egg custard, chawanmushi.

It was softer and more delicate than pudding, and it melted the moment it hit my mouth. Not even a hint of fishiness, just clean and refreshing — it really got my appetite going haha.

2. Kaisendon (seafood rice bowl), 26,000 won
Finally, the gorgeous-looking kaisendon arrived! Salmon, tuna, sweet shrimp, abalone, ankimo (monkfish liver), seared scallops and more fresh seafood were piled on so generously the bowl looked almost too small to hold it all.

Since the sashimi is kelp-aged, the umami and chewy texture were just amazing! The rice was seasoned just right too, so scooping up a big spoonful with the sashimi, or wrapping it in seaweed, was pure happiness.

3. Ilpum-don with negitoro, 30,000 won
Finely minced, savory tuna negitoro was piled up like a mountain, topped with gleaming salmon roe — that's the ilpum-don!
The combination of the nutty tuna and the pop of the salmon roe was insane... A bit of chopped green onion cuts through any richness cleanly, and the flavor that bursts out is nutty, rich, and truly something special.
4. Gokigen-cho sake in a wooden masu cup, 6,000 won
It'd be a shame to enjoy delicious Japanese food without a drink! They poured Gokigen-cho sake neatly into a traditional wooden Japanese cup (matsu cup) for me, and the subtle sake aroma washed through my mouth, pairing perfectly with the rice bowls. The drink just went down smoothly, haha.

5. Dessert and the complimentary cold udon
Near the end of the meal, a refreshing cold udon with chewy noodles came out, haha.

To finish, they also gave us a sweet and tangy mango pudding for dessert, making the whole meal feel like a complete course!
Final verdict: a Gangnam Station Japanese restaurant for dates and solo meals alike
Ilpum Gangnam Branch was high-quality Japanese food that felt worth every won. The thickness, freshness, and aging of the sashimi were so good that I enjoyed every last bite, haha.
The neat, calm interior makes it just as good for a date or a formal meal as it is for a comfortable solo lunch break. If you're near Gangnam Station looking for a proper kaisendon spot or a Japanese restaurant with great atmosphere, I highly recommend giving Ilpum Gangnam Branch a try!!
