I was looking for a good ramen and tonkatsu spot near Daegu Health College, and that's how I ended up at Myeonsikdang Daegu Bogeondae. It's a place where the katsu and ramen really complement each other!

The restaurant is close to Daegu Health College, so it's an easy spot for both students and office workers to drop into. The clean wood-and-white interior gave a comfortable first impression, and with bar seating for solo diners plus 2-person and 4-person tables, it was easy to use no matter who I came with. Everything was kept nicely tidy, which made for a pleasant meal from start to finish.

The three dishes we ordered

This time we ordered tonkotsu ramen, mozzarella cheese katsu, and handmade sirloin katsu. Getting to enjoy ramen and tonkatsu together made me even more excited.

Tonkotsu ramen — rich broth and springy noodles

The tonkotsu ramen arrived first, and the deep broth aroma alone got my appetite going. One sip revealed a rich flavor from pork bones simmered for a long time, and it wasn't too heavy, so it stayed easy to eat right to the end.

The noodles had a nice springy texture, and the broth soaked into them well, so every bite had a deep umami flavor.

The chashu (braised pork slices) was cooked tender and melted in the mouth, and with the soft-boiled egg added in, it became an even more filling meal.

The bean sprouts were cooked just right by the time I got to them — so good!

The broth was rich and deep, which I really loved.

Mozzarella cheese katsu — cheese that stretches when you cut it

The mozzarella cheese katsu was really satisfying too. The outside was fried crispy, and it was packed with mozzarella cheese inside, so the moment I cut into it, the cheese stretched long — such a mouthwatering visual.

The savory cheese and juicy meat went really well together, and with the crispy batter on top, I kept reaching for more.

Dipping it in the sauce brought out even more flavor — I think this is a dish anyone, from kids to adults, would enjoy.

Handmade sirloin katsu — thick but tender sirloin

The handmade sirloin katsu exceeded expectations too. The sirloin cut was thick but not tough at all — tender with a nice chew.

There was just enough juiciness to really taste the meat's flavor, and the batter was crispy without being greasy, making it easy to eat cleanly. Paired with the ramen, it made for a fully satisfying meal.

How is ramen and tonkatsu together?

Eating all three dishes together, the combination was really good. The rich tonkotsu ramen broth paired well with the crispy tonkatsu, and sipping the broth in between cut through any greasiness, so I could keep enjoying it all the way to the end. The portions were generous enough to make a full meal, and it was great for sharing several dishes with a friend.

The staff were also friendly, which made the meal even more pleasant. The food came out quickly, and the restaurant's quiet, clean atmosphere made it easy to focus on eating. If you're looking for a good ramen or tonkatsu spot near Daegu Health College, I think this place is worth a visit.
