Chuojeong Namwon Chueotang is a chueotang (loach soup) and ganjang gejang (soy-marinated crab) restaurant on Geumgang-ro in Jinjeop-eup, Namyangju, Gyeonggi. On a drive with her mom, the writer ordered the Chuojeong set, which arrives with duck bulgogi, Jeju yellow crab jang, fried loach, loach dumplings, chueotang and pot rice, and tasted clean with no muddy smell. With a parking lot behind the building and a room for up to 28 people, Chuojeong Namwon Chueotang suits family meals and group gatherings.

Yangpyeong hanjeongsik with acorn jelly mustard salad: Ochan Hoedong

Pistache by Capore is a large dog-friendly bakery café in Gangha-myeon, Yangpyeong, Gyeonggi. The writer visited with her mother and their dog Guwol, ordered coffee, salt bread and a raspberry grain baguette, met the mascot poodle Mac and two kittens, and walked through the gallery-like annex and the outdoor path. Pistache by Capore has more to look at than to eat, which makes it a good stop on a Yangpyeong drive.

Korean BBQ near Naksan Beach in Yangyang: fresh ribs at Yeoyejeong

Yeoyejeong is a charcoal barbecue restaurant on Ssangsolbaegi-gil in Seo-myeon, Yangyang, Gangwon, a short drive from Naksan Beach. Arriving late after a day at the beach, the writer waited about 15 minutes, then ordered fresh ribs for two and pork belly for one, and remembers the coffee-wood binchotan charcoal aroma and a first taste of caipira lettuce wraps. Yeoyejeong is worth the trip in Yangyang when you want ribs you pick up by the bone.
