Cheongdam hair salon wave perm for fine, straight hair: Park Jun

I'm guessing a lot of you are thinking about getting your hair done before summer vacation~ I was too! I went to designer Hanbyeol at Park Jun Beauty Lab (박준뷰티랩), a Cheongdam salon that has been in business for 40 years, for a healthy perm, and I was so happy with it that I really, truly want to recommend it!

What style is designer Hanbyeol's signature perm at Park Jun Beauty Lab?

Every designer at Park Jun Beauty Lab Cheongdam Branch has a different signature, and Hanbyeol's is a mid-length perm that plays up volume. It's for people growing out their hair, or anyone who wants the prettiest style possible at mid-length! That was exactly me, so I booked without a second of hesitation!

How often does fine, straight hair need a perm? Before / After

For mid-length hair like mine (about shoulder-blade length), re-perming every 4-5 months, or up to 6, is usually right, but my hair is especially fine and straight, so the perm drops sooner,, This time I was back for another perm after just 3 months! If you perm and color often like me, you'll probably be extra interested in a healthy perm in Cheongdam!

Inside Park Jun Beauty Lab Cheongdam Branch: interior and atmosphere

The inside of Park Jun Beauty Lab Cheongdam Branch was clean and bright! Gangnam gets a lot of foreign customers, and I trusted it more because it's a salon certified by Gangnam-gu! While I was getting my hair done, there was a foreign customer next to me, and the staff served them in English from start to finish!

I heard that over 90% of the designers have 15 or more years of experience, which really reassured me, and then I saw the result and, yep^^ experience really does count, I felt it again!

Cabinets and changing room

At Park Jun Beauty Lab, you store your belongings in a cabinet and come out in a gown. There's a bright mirror at the cabinets too, so after my hair was done I took a proper mirror selfie there haha

Powder room

There's a powder room in a corner of the dressing room, so if you have plans right after your hair, it's great for touching up your makeup and changing clothes!

VIP space and premium head spa

The Cheongdam salon Park Jun Beauty Lab has a completely separate space just for VIPs! The premium head spa, where you can sit facing each other, is said to be very popular with couples! It rotates 180 degrees, so you can enjoy it even more comfortably.

How does the healthy perm process go?

Consultation with a design book: from S-curl perm to wave perm

The healthy perm at Park Jun Beauty Lab starts with a consultation, and she asked what style I wanted! I wanted a healthy perm where you can really feel the curl, and there was a design book, so I could check right away with designer Hanbyeol what each look felt like, which was so convenient! I decided to go from my usual S-curl perm to a bolder wave perm!

Shampoo and hair diagnosis

We did the shampoo first~

Next comes the hair diagnosis! They chose a solution suited to my hair and went ahead with the healthy perm! My roots are fairly healthy, but the ends had turned white, so the hair is quite damaged toward the tips..

And I got to drink a cold iced Americano~

Layered cut

My hair used to be about shoulder-blade length, but the cut was heavy overall and made it feel droopy, so she said she'd add layers for a lighter feel, and just the cut alone looks so fresh and pretty!

Applying the perm solution and rolling the rods

They started applying the solution from the healthy hair near the roots! It was applied in 2 stages, and with the hair wrapped, they let it sit naturally for about 15 minutes!

Designer Hanbyeol's touch when rolling the rods is seriously insane,, Can you see how calm and meticulous she is? I was amazed that she rolled so tightly that not a single strand slipped out! Watching her roll, I thought 'there's no way this won't turn out well!', and then the result proved it! You could tell in advance it would come out clean! If you're curious, check the video!

Heat treatment, drying machine, neutralizing

After the heat treatment, they also used a drying machine so the curl would set even stronger! After letting it sit naturally, they did a test curl too!

The neutralizer is sprayed on while you sit! After 5 minutes the rods come out, and then the neutralizing is done one more time~

Hair spa

I went to the hair spa room at Park Jun Beauty Lab for a hair mask + mist treatment! Lying back in a massage chair, I got a scalp massage, and the touch was so gentle and refreshing that I forgot to take photos! They put an eye mask on me too, so I got to properly relax and enjoy it~

She kindly explained how to dry it, so I can style it by myself at home!

Wave perm healthy perm result and how to dry it at home

I got a wave-perm look through the healthy perm, and at home you dry the roots first, then while the hair is still a little damp, you bring out the wave pattern and go step by step with the dryer!

• Dry the roots first, then while a little moisture remains, bring out the wave pattern and dry step by step
• The back is hard to shape, so scrunch it as you dry for a natural hippie-perm feel
• When all that feels too hard or annoying, just twirl and dry it round and round like an S-curl
• The curl is strong, so apply curl cream or hair oil before and after drying

I mentioned that I usually tie my hair up, so she even added cute face-framing side strands for me! It also looks pretty tucked behind the ears, which I love :)
