Danyang market bakery garlic bread, a no-ticket weekday line: Danppang
In short
Danppang Bakery (단빵제빵소) is a garlic bread bakery inside Danyang Gugyeong Market in Danyang, Chungbuk. On a weekday visit around 11am, after the 10:30 opening, Danppang Bakery had no queue-ticket system, just a line with a short wait. The set held four garlic breads (cream cheese, black garlic cream cheese, crispy-outside soft-inside baguette, and sweet potato custard) packed in a divided box. The fresh-baked bread was worth the wait and tasted even better warmed briefly in an air fryer at home.

Where to park for Danppang Bakery inside Danyang Gugyeong Market
If you're visiting Danyang, Danyang Gugyeong Market (단양구경시장) is a must-stop. Park at the market's public parking lot or the Hasang parking lot and it's just a short walk from there.
Danyang Gugyeong Market is packed with all kinds of food stalls, so it's fun just to wander around. I picked up some black garlic nurungji dakgangjeong (crispy rice scorch chicken) and stopped by Danppang Bakery right next door.

Weekday 11am wait, no ticket system
Danppang Bakery is genuinely famous as a garlic bread spot in Danyang and has been featured on TV several times. Weekend waits are known to be long, and there's no ticket system — you just have to line up and wait.
Still, the staff work fast, so orders and packing move along quickly and the turnover was better than expected. It opens at 10:30, and even though I showed up around 11am on a weekday, there was already a small wait.

While waiting, you can look inside and watch them making the bread and pulling batches out of the oven continuously. The smell of freshly baked bread kept drifting out, building up my anticipation the whole time I was in line. With warm bread coming out nonstop, I could totally understand why so many people wait it out to buy some.

Danppang Bakery's menu: four kinds of garlic bread
As a garlic bread specialist, Danppang Bakery doesn't have a huge menu, but each of the four had a distinct character. They sell cream cheese garlic bread, black garlic cream cheese garlic bread, crispy-soft baguette garlic bread, and sweet potato custard garlic bread — four types in total.

You can buy them individually, but most people seemed to go for the set of 4, with one of each flavor. I wanted to try all the flavors too, so I got the set — it was packed neatly in a box, which made it great as a gift or a travel souvenir.

If you're eating at home, warm it slightly in the air fryer
If you happen to be eating it at home, running it briefly through an air fryer or oven makes it even tastier!

The four flavors were packed with dividers inside the box, so I could carry them home without anything getting squashed.

Comparing the four garlic bread flavors
Cream cheese garlic bread
The first one I tried, cream cheese garlic bread, had plenty of cream cheese packed into soft bread, and the sweet, savory flavors blended well. The garlic scent wasn't overwhelming, so it felt like a solid basic option that anyone would enjoy!

Black garlic cream cheese garlic bread
Danppang Bakery's signature item, the black garlic cream cheese garlic bread, is made by blending black garlic into the cream cheese. The deep flavor and subtle sweetness of black garlic paired really well with the cream cheese, giving it a different appeal from regular garlic bread. The black garlic aroma wasn't too strong, so even first-timers could enjoy it comfortably, and it felt like a special item you can only get in Danyang!

Sweet potato custard garlic bread
The sweet potato custard garlic bread was packed with sweet sweet potato and soft custard, giving it a strong dessert vibe. The subtle garlic aroma added an unusual twist, and anyone who likes sweet bread would be satisfied with this one. It seemed like the kind of flavor kids would love too, so it'd suit families traveling together.

Crispy-soft baguette garlic bread
The crispy-soft baguette garlic bread was exactly as named — crisp outside, soft inside. The baguette's characteristic texture combined with the sweet garlic sauce brought out a savory flavor with each bite, and it seemed like it would pair especially well with coffee. This is the one I'd most recommend to anyone who loves a crunchy texture.
Why I'd recommend Danppang Bakery at Danyang Gugyeong Market
Having tried all four, each had a clear charm of its own, and I didn't feel let down by any of them. From the basic garlic bread to the special black garlic version, there was plenty to enjoy, and being freshly baked made it taste even better. If you visit Danyang Gugyeong Market, I'd definitely recommend stopping by Danppang Bakery along with the black garlic nurungji dakgangjeong.
Even with a bit of a wait, tasting the warm, freshly baked garlic bread made it easy to understand why so many people seek this place out. It's great as a travel snack and just as satisfying brought home — a real signature treat of Danyang!!
