Why we stopped at Black Garlic Salt Bread in Danyang's Gugyeong Market
Black Garlic Salt Bread is a salt bread specialty bakery inside Gyeonggyeong Market (구경시장) in Danyang. I went on a trip to Danyang with friends, and it turns out there's a must-visit market there called Danyang Market haha.
There are lots of famous sights too — Dodamsambong, Mancheonha Skywalk, the Danyang River suspension trail — and if you add Gyeonggyeong Market to your route, you get sightseeing and food together haha.
I didn't know this, but Danyang is basically just garlic itself. Garlic seems to be the signature in literally every dish. If you lived here you'd never turn into a bear haha.
Gyeonggyeong Market in Danyang was bigger than I expected and had a great variety of food, so it was fun just looking around haha. Inside the market there was everything from tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patties) to dakgangjeong (crispy fried chicken) to garlic bread, but among them, I visited a special salt bread spot in the Danyang market called Black Garlic Salt Bread!

Where Black Garlic Salt Bread is and how ordering works
Being Danyang's landmark market, Gyeonggyeong Market was packed with people. Walk straight in and head right, and!!

Near the exit, you'll find the Black Garlic Salt Bread shop! No eating in the store — takeaway only.
Black Garlic Salt Bread menu and prices

Black Garlic Salt Bread has four types of salt bread in total.
- Original salt bread ₩3,000
- Streusel salt bread ₩3,800
- Garlic salt bread ₩3,800
- Black garlic salt bread ₩4,200
There's a 4-piece set that's about ₩1,000 cheaper, so I'd recommend getting the set!

Don't they look delicious just from the photos? I'd never seen garlic salt bread before, and since it's Danyang's famously tasty garlic, I was really curious!!
The original salt bread also looked plump and delicious. The streusel salt bread has streusel on top, and the garlic salt bread is spread with garlic spread.

Can you taste the salt bread before buying?
What's great about this place is that you can taste-test! They must have real confidence in the flavor to let you sample. I tried the garlic and original salt breads, and both were delicious, so of course I bought the set haha.

The black garlic aging room in front of the shop
There's a black garlic aging room right out front. Looks like they age the black garlic themselves before using it. It was interesting to think that aging garlic changes the flavor haha.

They said all products are made and sold on the same day, which felt reassuring haha.

There's also an event where you get Sangha Farm ice cream if you participate in the Naver review event! Salt bread with milk ice cream sounds so good together 🥹🥹 Everyone should do the review event for an even tastier trip!!

What comes in Set 2 and how it's packed
Ta-da!! I picked Set 2 — 2 original, 1 garlic, 1 black garlic. It was packed really nicely and easy to carry.

How the salt bread tasted back home
I opened the packaging after getting home from Danyang, and it arrived looking really nice haha. It's tasty eaten as is, but reheating it a bit brings out more of the buttery smell, so it'll probably taste even better that way!!
The garlic salt bread has garlic spread and what looks like peanut powder sprinkled on top. Out of everything I tried, the garlic salt bread was my favorite — sweet but with a subtle garlic aroma that kept me reaching for more 🥹
Since it's called garlic, you might expect a strong, overpowering smell, but it's not like that at all, so even people who don't love garlic that much could probably eat it without hesitation.
Can you see the butter streak running through the middle of the salt bread!! The salt bread was delicious just on its own. The black garlic salt bread was different again — there's garlic butter spread between the layers too. The black garlic sauce on top was sweet and delicious too!!
There's so much food to try at Danyang's Gyeonggyeong Market that it's fun to keep buying different things, and Black Garlic Salt Bread is easy to pack and bring back to your accommodation or home, so it makes a great snack to bring back as a memento of your Danyang trip. Make sure to stop by Black Garlic Salt Bread, a must-visit spot at Danyang's Gyeonggyeong Market, and pack some to take home!!
