Seongsu burger spot, Bacon Deluxe double patty: Bored & Hungry Seongsu

Looking for a good burger spot in Seongsu, I finally made it back to Bored & Hungry after a long time. I liked it a lot on my first visit, and coming back now, that same punchy color scheme and lively atmosphere were still there — it was nice to see.

The crowd ranged from couples on dates to foreign visitors, and depending on the time of day the place still filled up almost completely — clearly still popular. High chairs were on hand too, so it was more manageable than I expected to bring a kid along.

How to order at Bored & Hungry Seongsu, and what's on the self-bar

Bored & Hungry Seongsu doesn't use a separate kiosk system. You scan the QR code on your table with your phone, then pick your menu and order.

Since it had been a while, this time I went bold and ordered several different burgers to compare. Once your order's in, you just grab what you need from the self-bar.

There's napkins and wet wipes, knives and forks, and even ketchup, hot sauce, side plates, and gloves. Some of the burgers are big with a lot of sauce, so personally I'd recommend always grabbing gloves.

Water's free without ordering, and if you ordered a drink, you use the dispenser. There's Pepsi, Pepsi Zero, Chilsung Cider, plus Mountain Dew and the Toms lineup — a good range to pair with a burger. You handle the self-bar yourself, but staff bring the finished food to your table.

The Shrimp Burger: the surprise favorite of the three

The menu I ended up liking most unexpectedly was the Shrimp Burger. I almost always go for a beef patty when I eat burgers, so I wasn't expecting much from a shrimp burger — but my mind changed from the very first bite.

The patty itself was quite thick, and it wasn't just finely ground shrimp — there were chunky bits of shrimp meat throughout. That gave it a genuinely springy, bouncy texture, a completely different charm from a meat patty.

The regular fries I ordered alongside were satisfying too. I'd tried the butter garlic fries before, but personally I felt the regular fries actually paired better with the burgers.

Freshly fried, crisp outside and soft inside, they cleaned up the palate nicely between bites of rich burger. Even if you don't usually go for shrimp burgers, this one's worth trying at least once at Bored & Hungry.

Want something heavy? The Bacon Deluxe with a double patty

The showiest menu item on this visit was the Bacon Deluxe Burger. It's a 130g smash patty between a brioche bun, and I paid an extra ₩4,000 to upgrade to double patty.

With American cheese, bacon, grilled onion, red onion, tomato, and frilled lettuce all packed in, it's a hefty burger from the size alone.

Order it as a double patty and it gets tall enough to be tricky to eat in one bite, so those self-bar gloves come in genuinely handy. It looks like it'd be pretty heavy at first glance, but the tomato and frilled lettuce cut through the richness in the middle.

I especially liked that the bacon stayed crisp rather than going limp, so its texture didn't overlap with the patty. If you want the soft brioche bun, rich meaty flavor, and the punch of cheese and bacon all at once, this is personally the first thing I'd recommend.

How the Classic Cheeseburger compares

The Classic Cheeseburger is, as the name suggests, close to the most basic cheeseburger build. A brioche bun with a 130g patty, Swiss cheese, American cheese, grilled onion, and classic sauce.

With almost no vegetables, it suits anyone who wants to enjoy the rich cheese and patty flavor as-is. The pickles keep it from getting too greasy, giving it a strong classic-cheeseburger feel.

That said, since it's somewhat similar in composition to the O.G. burger, if you're ordering several menu items at once, I felt there's no need to pick both.

Bored & Hungry, a go-to burger spot in Seongsu, isn't just about flashy looks — the balance between patty, bun, and sauce is genuinely dialed in, which is why I want to come back again. If you're craving a heavy, properly made burger in Seongsu, Bored & Hungry is still a place I'd recommend.
