Myeongdong jokbal restaurant with a big-window view: Miss Jokbal

Miss Jokbal Seoul Myeongdong Branch is a jokbal (braised pig's trotters) restaurant in Myeongdong, Seoul, 3 minutes from Euljiro 1-ga Station Exit 5. After shopping in Myeongdong, the writer ordered the medium Original Jokbal for ₩42,000, which came with radish kimchi, free kimchi kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) and a salad topped with olives and nuts, and packed the leftover jokbal to go themselves. With moist, tender jokbal and a view of Myeongdong through the big windows, Miss Jokbal Seoul Myeongdong Branch is worth recommending for a filling meal after shopping.

Sokcho sashimi takeout with hirashi, a first taste for two: Hoega

Hoega (회가) is a sashimi takeout restaurant on Beonyeong-ro 43beon-gil in Sokcho, Gangwon. Two travelers took out Hoega's small mixed sashimi platter (43,000 won) and a slushy, ice-cold mulhoe (cold raw fish soup, 17,000 won) to eat at their lodging; the thick slices of flounder, rockfish, sand flounder and hirashi, a fish they tried for the first time, were more than enough for two. For Sokcho travelers who want a full sashimi spread at their stay with no prep, Hoega's takeout set is a great fit.

Bangi-dong Food Alley bar for a 9-minute gopchang hot pot: Horanggul

Horanggul Bangi Branch (호랑이굴 방이점) is an izakaya-style gopchang and daechang (beef intestine) hot pot restaurant in the middle of Bangi-dong Food Alley in Songpa, Seoul. On a Jamsil date, the writer ordered gopchang hot pot for 2 (₩33,000), added fried tofu pouches, and simmered the pot for 9 minutes on the table timer; the broth came out spicy and refreshing. Horanggul Bangi Branch is a good bar-and-dinner stop on the way back from Seokchon Lake or Lotte World.

Wareureu Mansion Bangi Branch (와르르맨숀 방이점) is a Korean-style pub on the 2nd floor at the entrance to the Bangi-dong food alley in Songpa, Seoul. On a Jamsil date, the writer ducked into Wareureu Mansion to escape the heat and ordered the spicy beef shank and tendon hotpot for ₩28,900, 300ml draft beers at ₩100 per person for guests arriving before 7pm, and Wareureu chewy potatoes. With a red, mala-scented broth and refillable macaroni as the free side dish, Wareureu Mansion is a good-value pick for daytime drinking in Bangi-dong.
