Yesan chicken restaurant for shishito pepper dakbokkeum: Sijang

In short

Sijang Dakbokkeum is a chicken restaurant in Yesan Market, Yesan, Chungnam, specializing in shishito pepper chicken stir-fry for takeout. We picked up the boneless basic order before heading to Splas Resom and gently simmered it in a pot that night. Verdict: the deliciously spicy sauce, packed with shishito pepper fragrance, was especially good.

Before going to Splas Resom, we stopped by Yesan Market for lunch and a look around. The parking lot was quite spacious too, so it was easy to use.

Looking Around Yesan Market and Getting Around with a Stroller

It may be a market, but it is incredibly clean and well organized! Baek Jong-won apparently put the whole Yesan Market together, so it was labeled Baek Jong-won Street. There is so much food tucked into every alley.

Each shop has tables, so you can eat there, or grab a spot in the central square and bring over bits and pieces you buy. There were quite a lot of people even on a weekday, but I hear the square tables have a wait on weekends because it gets so busy.

Some of the alley floors were a little uneven, but it was still fine to bring in a stroller. It might be difficult with a stroller when it is absolutely packed on a weekend, but weekdays were totally fine. The square is spacious too, so we parked the stroller by the walkway—and our baby became a little celebrity with everyone passing by, haha.

While looking around, we spotted Sijang Dakbokkeum (시장닭볶음). We stopped in to get takeout because it seemed perfect for dinner. Shishito pepper chicken stir-fry—just right as a drinking snack for the evening, hahaha.

They said that if you order an apple slush, they also give you a tube. Pop it right into the tube and drink the apple slush—I think kids would absolutely love it, hahaha.

Menu and Ordering

Sijang Dakbokkeum has exactly one menu item: shishito pepper chicken stir-fry. You just choose bone-in or boneless. You can add extra shishito peppers, cheese, quail eggs, bunmoja (wide chewy starch noodles), or Vienna sausages as toppings. We ordered the basic shishito pepper chicken stir-fry with no extra toppings~~~!!

They said steamed rice, water, drinks, and alcohol are sold where you rent grill plates in Jangteo Square. There were two grill-plate rental spots!

After ordering, you give them your phone number and get a KakaoTalk notification when it is ready. It was so convenient because we could browse around or order from somewhere else, then come back to pick it up.

Boneless Chicken Stir-Fry Simmered for Dinner

After getting the baby to bed, we finally ate dinner at 9 p.m.. 🤤 Some time had passed since we picked it up, but it was still perfectly fine! The container was microwave-safe, but we gently simmered it in a pot to make it even tastier.

This is crazy, crazy~~~~~~~ So much shishito pepper fragrance~~~~~~~ There were rice cakes, shishito peppers, and plenty of chicken too! I regret it now, but the sauce was so good that we probably could have added the bunmoja topping too ^.^

We also brought home sashimi, so setting the table made it even more, more, more abundant ^.^

I usually like bone-in chicken, but I ordered boneless because I worried I would not even have the energy to pick bones after putting the baby to bed. But we were dreaming different dreams. Husband: “Good thing we ordered boneless.” Me: “Should we have ordered bone-in?” Hahahahahahahahahahaha.

The boneless chicken was delicious too! If we had had rice, it probably would have been even, even better to stir-fry the rice in the sauce. It was deliciously spicy, so we happily ate it while going “whew whew, haha.”

Yesan Market has lots of food and is clean and well organized, so it would be nice even just to enjoy the atmosphere of a tidy old-school market. If you are heading to Splas Resom, it would be great to pick up shishito pepper chicken stir-fry and a few other things from Sijang Dakbokkeum for dinner!
