Cheongdam pufferfish course set for two, 74,000 won: Bogi-o Boguk

Bogi-o Boguk is a pufferfish restaurant in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam, Seoul, about 625m from Exit 13 of Cheongdam Station on the second floor of Deokyoung Building on Dosan-daero. On the last day of a three-day Seoul trip, the writer arrived at 2:10pm on a Sunday and ordered the Bogi-o course set at 37,000 won per person for two, or 74,000 won in total, working through pufferfish bulgogi, pufferfish karaage and milbok (mild pufferfish) soup. With no break time, Bogi-o Boguk is an easy place to sit down to a full pufferfish course even at an in-between hour.

Aged kimchi and flounder platter at Sangkai, a Songpa izakaya

Sangkai Izakaya Bangi Branch is a sashimi and small-plates izakaya on the second floor of the Bangi-dong food alley in Songpa, Seoul. On day two of a three-day Seoul trip, before boarding a Hangang River cruise in Jamsil, we took a window seat and ordered the flounder and aged kimchi platter for 49,000 won and two chicken neck skewers for 6,900 won, wrapping the flounder sashimi, ankimo (monkfish liver) and beef brisket in seaweed. With the second-floor windows thrown wide open, Sangkai has the easy feel of a streetside drinking tent and suits a light drink or two.
