Daejeon day-trip pasta restaurant after Sungsimdang: Someday Romance
In short
Someday Romance is a Southeast Asian resort-style pasta and pizza restaurant on the 6th floor of Savezone on Dunsan-ro, Seo-gu, Daejeon. On a Daejeon day trip, four friends came to Someday Romance for dinner after Sungsimdang and shared aglio e olio, a 40cm cream calzone and a ricotta cheese salad pizza, while the stone-gate entrance and rattan interior made them feel like they were at an overseas resort. If you want a different way to end a mostly Korean-food Daejeon trip, Someday Romance is a great fit.

A Daejeon trip felt like a waste if all we did was Sungsimdang..

Daejeon day trip: where to have dinner after Sungsimdang?
For dinner on our Daejeon day trip, we picked Someday Romance (썸데이로맨스) on the 6th floor of Savezone in Dunsan-dong. It's a Western-style restaurant with a Southeast Asian vibe rather than a Korean one, which made it a perfect way to end the trip.
I went on a Daejeon day trip with friends last weekend. What's Daejeon famous for? Sungsimdang, of course (the famous bakery). We arrived in the morning, had a hearty breakfast at a well-known gukbap (rice soup) place, then waited over an hour at Sungsimdang and bought a ton of bread plus the mango sirutteok (mango cake). After all that, we just didn't feel like having Korean food for dinner too.
We wanted to finish the trip somewhere with a different mood, so I searched for good restaurants, but most results were Korean food or meat restaurants. Then I stumbled on Someday Romance. I love Southeast Asian-style cafés and restaurants and have gone out of my way to find them in Seoul too. The moment I saw the photos, I thought, "We have to go here."
What's the atmosphere at Someday Romance? Interiors like a Southeast Asian getaway
Someday Romance feels like a Southeast Asian resort, with a huge stone gate at the entrance, palm trees, rattan chairs and wood-toned interiors. What is this place? It feels like we're on a trip in Southeast Asia!

It feels like walking into an overseas resort, starting with the huge stone gate at the entrance!

The palm trees and exotic props really make it feel like you're traveling.

Inside, the rattan chairs, wood-toned decor and soft lighting made it feel like a café at a Southeast Asian resort.

There are lots of good photo spots, so we took a ton of pictures with my friends.

A commemorative photo here is a must! Going through the reviews, I found that Someday Romance is already well known as a brunch spot in Dunsan-dong. I think it would also suit couples as a brunch date place.
What did the 4 friends order? Pasta and calzone
The four of us ordered aglio e olio, a 40cm cream calzone, a ricotta cheese salad, Fanta and Sprite at the kiosk. The pasta and calzone were better than we expected.

Ordering at the kiosk was convenient. Especially nice: when you order drinks, you can get several ice cups!

- Aglio e olio
- 40cm cream calzone
- Ricotta cheese salad
- Fanta
- Sprite

And the prices weren't as steep as I expected.
How is the ricotta cheese salad pizza?

The first thing we tried was the ricotta cheese salad pizza, and the fresh vegetables went really well with the ricotta. The cheese was soft and the balsamic dressing wasn't overpowering, so we kept reaching for more.
Someday Romance's aglio e olio is the thick, rich style

The aglio e olio here was a bit thicker and richer (kkudeokhan) than typical oil pasta. The sauce clung nicely to the noodles and the garlic flavor was just right, so it was mild yet nutty and memorable.
The 40cm cream calzone: how big is it?

The dish that caught our eye most was, of course, the 40cm cream calzone. It looked big in photos, but it was even bigger in person.
The half-moon-shaped bread was generously filled with cream sauce and ingredients, and dipping the bread into the cream sauce was a really delicious combo. It was my first calzone ever, and it was top-notch in both looks and taste!

The portions were generous enough for four people to share, so it was great for trying a variety of dishes.
A meal we loved for both the food and the atmosphere
Someday Romance satisfied us on both food and atmosphere. The setting made the meal even more enjoyable.

These days, I don't think tasty food alone stays in your memory for long. The atmosphere of a space matters too, and Someday Romance delivered on both.

After the meal we even got a cute coupon, which ended things on a happy note. I never expected to find this kind of Southeast Asian vibe in Daejeon.
If I go back to Daejeon, it's Someday Romance
We started this Daejeon trip because of Sungsimdang, but the place that stayed with me longest was Someday Romance. It's on the 6th floor of Savezone, so parking is easy, and it's free for 3 hours.

This trip began because of Sungsimdang, but the place I'll remember longest is Someday Romance. The food and the atmosphere were both great, and it made the end of our trip extra special.

If you're looking for a pasta restaurant with a nice atmosphere in Daejeon, or want to eat somewhere different, it's worth a visit. If you like Southeast Asian vibes especially, I think you'll love it.

The meal with friends was great, but there are plenty of kid-friendly dishes too, so I think it would work well for a family. It's on the 6th floor of Savezone, so parking is easy and free for 3 hours.
