What kind of place is Nadeulmok Yeoju Ssalbap?
Nadeulmok Yeoju Ssalbap (나들목 여주쌀밥) is a hanjeongsik (Korean set meal) restaurant that serves a generous spread made with 100% Yeoju royal-tribute rice and fresh produce the owners grow themselves. They say the rice grows in rich soil and has the best flavor.
It sits right next to Yeoju IC, so it's easy to reach, and the mix of varied side dishes and stone-pot rice leaves a deep impression. Great value too. Let me walk you through this very satisfying meal, with the nutty smell of freshly cooked rice and neat, carefully made sides that delighted all my senses.

Is it crowded at mealtimes? What's the interior like?
As soon as mealtime started, it was hard to find an empty seat. One look and you can tell why locals and visitors alike love this place.
The interior is plain but tidy, calm and orderly, fitting the feel of a hanjeongsik meal. Wooden furniture and warm lighting make it cozy, and the seating is spaced efficiently, so even with so many customers it never felt cramped or chaotic, and we could chat comfortably throughout. I was especially impressed by how clean it stayed despite the lively traffic.

Set meal menu at Nadeulmok Yeoju Ssalbap
The sets are built around freshly cooked Yeoju rice in a cauldron-style pot, and you choose the main dish: charcoal-grilled bulgogi, grilled dried pollack, braised cutlassfish and more. Dozens of carefully made sides from home-grown produce come along, so for a reasonable price you get a real taste of Yeoju home cooking.

How are the side dishes in the Nadeulmok set served?
After looking at the menu, I ordered the Nadeulmok set (나들목정식) for 2, the most basic yet well-rounded option. Not long after, before any main dish arrived, a colorful array of side dishes filled the table.

The neatly plated sides showed off the essence of hanjeongsik. It wasn't just about the number of dishes; each had deep, handmade flavor. Maybe thanks to the home-grown produce, the vegetables kept their freshness and crunch. They were lightly seasoned, never harsh, so I kept reaching for them before the rice even came, and these clean, mild sides were a great appetizer that made me look forward to the pot rice.

Nadeulmok set mains: stone-pot rice, mackerel, spicy pork and doenjang stew
The mains of the Nadeulmok set are freshly cooked stone-pot rice, grilled mackerel, stir-fried spicy pork and doenjang stew. While I was savoring the sides, this trio arrived one after another with the rice, and the table became a feast fit to bend its legs.

Freshly cooked stone-pot rice and nurungji tea
The moment you lift the lid, a nutty aroma and white steam rise up, and true to Yeoju rice's reputation, every grain gleams. Even a big spoonful of plain rice fills your mouth with a faint sweetness and a sticky, chewy texture the longer you chew. Scooping the rice into a bowl and pouring hot water into the pot to make sungnyung (scorched rice tea) is an essential part of enjoying stone-pot rice.

Crispy-outside, juicy-inside mackerel and sweet-spicy pork
The set's grilled mackerel is golden and crisp outside, moist and tender inside, plain yet salty and savory. The stir-fried spicy pork, soaked in sweet-spicy sauce, is tender with no gamey smell, and piled on glossy rice it's a true rice thief.

Deep, nutty doenjang stew
The doenjang stew, nice to sip between bites, keeps the deep, nutty flavor of country-style soybean paste. Tofu and vegetables go in generously, so the broth is clean rather than harsh, and it quietly balances rice, sides, fish and meat, making the meal feel complete.
