Kid-friendly Korean restaurant near National Daegu Museum: Cafe Dongyi
In short
Cafe Dongyi Branch 1 is a Korean set-meal restaurant on the ground floor of the SK Leaders View building on Dongdaegu-ro in Suseong, Daegu. After visiting the National Daegu Museum with a child, the writer ordered a jeyuk-bokkeum (spicy stir-fried pork) set, a pork bulgogi set, yeolmu (young radish greens) tuna bibimbap and yeolmu bulgogi bibimbap, and the child fried an egg at the self-bar. With parking in the Homeplus shopping complex lot, Cafe Dongyi Branch 1 was a satisfying stop on a family road trip.

While wondering where to go with my child in Daegu, we ended up at the National Daegu Museum. We looked at the exhibits with our kid and took in a bit of Korean history and culture, and before we knew it, lunchtime had crept up on us.
On a trip, tasty food matters, but with a child you start thinking about everything else too: is parking easy, is there something the kid will eat, and do we have to wait long? While searching for restaurants near the museum after our visit, I found Cafe Dongyi Branch 1 (카페동이 1호점).

In the reviews, a neat set-meal spread, jeyuk-bokkeum (spicy stir-fried pork), pork bulgogi and yeolmu (young summer radish) bibimbap came up as popular, and many people said the self-bar where you make your own fried egg is great for kids. We went for lunch, and to cut to the chase, it was a satisfying stop for a family trip in Daegu. Here is my review of Cafe Dongyi Branch 1 in Suseong, Daegu, after visiting the National Daegu Museum.
From the National Daegu Museum to Cafe Dongyi Branch 1: what about parking?
Cafe Dongyi Branch 1 is on the ground floor of the SK Leaders View building at 95 Dongdaegu-ro, Suseong-gu, Daegu. It was an easy distance from the museum after our visit, and a good location if you travel by car.
Parking is one of the biggest worries when you look for a restaurant with a child, and we could use the Homeplus complex parking lot, so getting there was easy.

The first thing I noticed inside was how clean and tidy it felt. The tables weren't cramped, and families were eating comfortably. It seemed to draw everyone from solo diners to family outings, and the staff greeted us kindly, so the first impression was good.

The Cafe Dongyi self-bar my child especially loved
The most memorable part of Cafe Dongyi Branch 1 was the self-bar. When you eat out with a kid, the wait before the food arrives can feel endless, but here the waiting was fun too.

🍳 Fry your own egg
The self-bar has a spot where you can make your own fried egg. My child loved the whole process of fetching an egg and cooking it.
The finished fried egg is tasty on its own, but on top of the jeyuk or the bibimbap it was even nuttier. Seeing my child so interested in the meal, more than usual, made me happy as a parent.

🌾 Multigrain rice and barley gangjeong too
If you run short of rice, you can get more multigrain rice, and after the meal there is barley gangjeong (a crunchy, sweet barley snack). A hearty meal followed by a sweet snack is a nice setup with a child. It felt less like a place where you just eat rice and leave, and more like somewhere the meal itself is a bit more fun.

Honest review of the 4 dishes we ordered
We ordered the jeyuk-bokkeum set, the pork bulgogi set, yeolmu tuna bibimbap and yeolmu bulgogi bibimbap. Since we had a child with us, we ordered a variety rather than one dish, so we got to try a good range of Cafe Dongyi's signature menu.
Jeyuk-bokkeum with a subtle smoky grill flavor
The first one we tried was the jeyuk-bokkeum set. The neatly arranged set looked lovely, with the stir-fried pork served alongside miyeok-guk (seaweed soup) and tidy side dishes.
The jeyuk had a subtle smoky, fire-grilled aroma. It wasn't an overpowering or harsh char, more a flavor that seemed naturally soaked into the meat, so it was easy to eat. The sauce was sweet with a slight kick, which went well with rice, and the meat was tender enough that my child ate it well. Putting the egg from the self-bar on top of the jeyuk added a nutty richness, and the combination was great.

Pork bulgogi, good for eating with a child
The second dish was the pork bulgogi set. If the jeyuk's charm is its faint smoky flavor and savoriness, the pork bulgogi was centered on a sweeter, saltier taste.
The seasoning isn't harsh, so it suited eating with a child, and with rice it made a filling meal. For a family outing, I think it pairs nicely when ordered alongside a spicier dish.

Yeolmu tuna bibimbap, a great summer lunch
It was a hot day, so the yeolmu tuna bibimbap we added was a hit. Crunchy yeolmu and nutty tuna came together for a clean yet filling taste.
The tuna adds depth to the bibimbap, and eaten with the meat dishes it cut through the richness nicely. It's a good pick when you want something light but still filling on a hot day.
Sweet bulgogi meets yeolmu: yeolmu bulgogi bibimbap
The last dish was the yeolmu bulgogi bibimbap. Crunchy yeolmu and sweet bulgogi in one bowl made it filling enough on its own.
Thanks to the cool, fresh taste of yeolmu, it didn't feel heavy even with the meat, and the texture was good too. It's easy for both kids and adults to eat, so I'd recommend it for a family visit.

Why I recommend it as a National Daegu Museum outing with a child
When you travel with a child, choosing the restaurant matters more than you'd think. Good food is important, but if the child can eat comfortably and mealtime is fun, the whole trip feels better.
Cafe Dongyi Branch 1 has a tidy Korean menu plus a self-bar kids can join in on, so it was low-pressure to visit with a child. After the exhibits at the National Daegu Museum, it was a good place for a hearty lunch before heading to the next stop. I especially liked that the fried-egg making and barley gangjeong kept my child from getting bored during the meal.

Verdict: a Korean restaurant worth visiting with a child in Daegu
If you're looking for a restaurant near the National Daegu Museum, or somewhere comfortable to eat with your child in Daegu, Cafe Dongyi Branch 1 seems like a decent choice. We enjoyed a tidy set-meal spread, jeyuk-bokkeum set with a subtle smoky flavor, a sweet pork bulgogi set, and the summery yeolmu tuna bibimbap and yeolmu bulgogi bibimbap.
Above all, the self-bar where a child can take part made it a very satisfying family restaurant. If you need a hearty lunch after the National Daegu Museum, it's worth a stop.
