I stopped by Chamsae Bori Sikppang, Bucheon main branch (참새보리식빵 부천본점) while I was in Bucheon on an errand. I took away three barley breads to compare, and their mild, nutty flavor—different from regular sandwich bread—stuck with me.
How far is it from Bucheon Station, and when should you visit?
The shop is on the first floor at 183-1 Gyeongin-ro, about 600 m from Bucheon Station Exit 2. It is primarily a takeout shop with a waiting area, and parking is unavailable.
The original post lists opening days as Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, starting at 10 a.m. It is regularly closed on Monday and Thursday. The shop closes early once everything is sold out, so the bread you want may be gone later in the day. I visited around 11 a.m. and could choose without rushing.
What barley breads and prices are available?
- Daesang Glutinous Barley: ₩6,000
- Grain Glutinous Barley: ₩6,500
- Rye Glutinous Barley: ₩3,700
The names made their features easy to understand, so I bought one of each this time.
According to the shop information, the breads undergo 72-hour low-temperature fermentation and use eco-friendly barley, New Zealand pasture butter, high-calcium milk, eggs, and natural starter, among other ingredients.
Were there samples or purchase benefits during my visit?
At the time of my visit, there were samples and an event that gave a financier for leaving a receipt review.
The cream was tasty too, so I bought one. It was sweet spread on the bread.
I received one coupon for each loaf. The information at the time said that collecting 10 coupons earned one loaf of bread for free.
How did the three barley breads differ in flavor?
The three breads I bought were neatly packed in a large bag. For me, it was enough to eat over about two days.
What did Daesang Glutinous Barley taste like?
I chose Daesang Glutinous Barley because its name made it seem like the signature item. It tasted a little different from ordinary sandwich bread, with the mildness and nuttiness characteristic of barley bread.
Why was Grain Glutinous Barley my favorite?
Grain Glutinous Barley is said to contain 18 grains and roasted walnuts in the basic barley bread. It was full of grains, making it nutty, and the texture was soft. Personally, it was my favorite of the three.
How was Rye Glutinous Barley as a snack?
At ₩3,700, Rye Glutinous Barley was the least expensive of the three I bought. With rye, walnuts, and cranberries, it had a full flavor and worked well as a light snack.
How did I eat the bread at home?
A day or two later, I coated the remaining bread in egg and pan-fried it. I also spread on jam received as a gift from an acquaintance, so I could enjoy it in different ways.
All three had slightly different characteristics, which made comparing them enjoyable. They were not sweet and leaned mild for my taste, and the nutty, soft Grain Glutinous Barley stood out in particular. If you have a specific kind in mind, it is worth planning your visit around the possibility of an early sellout.
