Summer mountain-view café in Sokcho: Ulsanbawi ridge, Cafe Neorae

Hi everyone 🥰 When traveling around Sokcho, ocean-view cafés are always nice, but this time I tried something a little different — a Sokcho café where you can rest while looking out at Seoraksan and Ulsanbawi rock. This is Cafe Neorae, near the Haksapyeong sundubu (soft tofu) village. The Seoraksan scenery was already great from a distance, but once I actually walked in, the space was huge and the floor-to-ceiling windows showed Ulsanbawi so clearly that I finally understood why people call this an Ulsanbawi-view café. Here's my review of Cafe Neorae, a large Sokcho café perfect for a quick rest during your trip :)

Where is Cafe Neorae, and where do you park?

Cafe Neorae is located at 114 Wonam Haksapyeong-gil, Sokcho-si, Gangwon-do, South Korea, 2F. Hours are 09:00–18:00, last order at 17:30. Parking is available in front of the café. ※ Please double-check the hours before visiting.

Since Cafe Neorae is in the Haksapyeong sundubu village, it was convenient to stop by on the way to or from Seoraksan or Hanwha Resort. The ground floor of the building houses Yetgoeul Sundubu, and Cafe Neorae is usable from the 2nd floor up. There was also quite a generous amount of parking out front, so it was easy to visit by car.

The first thing that caught my eye as soon as I walked into Cafe Neorae was, of course, the view. Beyond the huge windows, Seoraksan and Ulsanbawi rock spread out impressively — after always going to ocean-view cafés in Sokcho, coming to a mountain-view café like this felt completely different.

Especially on a clear day, you could see the ridgeline of Ulsanbawi so vividly that just sitting by the window felt healing. It was even more grand in person than in photos. So if you're looking for a Seoraksan café or an Ulsanbawi-view café, this is worth a stop.

Inside a spacious large café in Sokcho

The inside of Cafe Neorae was much bigger and more open than I expected. The tables weren't cramped, and plants placed here and there gave it an overall comfortable atmosphere. The view is already good on the 2nd floor, but going up to the floor above, Ulsanbawi felt even more expansive.

There was a variety of seating — from spots good for just sitting and drinking coffee to spots good for photos — so it seemed nice for families and for date courses alike. Above all, since it's a fairly large space, it also seemed good for anyone looking for a large Sokcho café to visit with a group during a trip.

What bakery items does Cafe Neorae have?

Walking into Cafe Neorae, there's a bakery display lined up along one side. From croissants and salt bread that go nicely with coffee, to Mont Blanc, breads, and tarts, quite a wide variety was ready.

I meant to just get a drink, but the bakery display made me grab one anyway... 😂 If you're looking for a Sokcho bakery café where you can enjoy dessert along with a good view, not just the view alone, this place should suit you well.

Taking a proper break over a drink

We picked drinks and bakery items we liked and found a seat. The drinks themselves were good, but the atmosphere of sipping slowly while gazing at Ulsanbawi definitely played a big part.

When you're traveling, your energy quietly drains from moving around so much, but sitting under the AC and looking at Seoraksan through the huge window, even a short sit-down felt like a real rest. On a nice day, if you place your drink by the window and take a photo, you can really capture that Sokcho travel mood :)

Why the window seats are worth grabbing

If you're choosing a seat at Cafe Neorae, I personally want to recommend the window side. Sitting where Ulsanbawi faces you directly, you end up gazing at the scenery the whole time you're drinking your coffee.

In summer, the lush green Seoraksan looks refreshing, and I imagine autumn foliage and winter snow would completely change the mood each season — I wanted to come back in other seasons too. This feels like the real charm of a café with a genuinely good view.

Is Cafe Neorae easy to visit with kids?

Since Cafe Neorae's space is so spacious, there were families with children as customers too. There's also a diaper-changing station inside the café, so parents traveling in Sokcho with a baby should be able to use the place a bit more comfortably.

When visiting a café with kids while traveling, cramped spaces or tightly packed seats can be stressful, but this place felt relatively relaxed, so it seemed fine for family visits.

A good last stop on a Sokcho trip

Given the location, it's good to stop by after a meal around Seoraksan or the sundubu village, and it also worked well as a spot to rest a little and wrap up a Sokcho trip.

If you want a slightly different scene in Sokcho, where ocean views dominate, Cafe Neorae — a recommended Sokcho café where you can take in Seoraksan and Ulsanbawi at a glance — is worth it. The spacious interior, bakery items, and above all the striking Ulsanbawi view left an impression, and I'd like to stop by again on a clear day the next time I'm in Sokcho :)
