Back at Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong for the Dongtan jjamppong broth
Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong Dongtan Namgwangjang Branch (불티나꼬막짬뽕 동탄남광장점) is the jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) place on Dongtan's Namgwangjang square that the writer returns to whenever the craving for its fiery, deep broth hits. This time too, no agonizing over dinner, straight there.
You know how some foods just pop into your head for no special reason? For me, jjamppong is one of them. When a place has a broth that's both fiery and deep, I end up going back every now and then. This time the taste of that broth suddenly came to mind, so I didn't even think about dinner and headed to Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong Dongtan Namgwangjang Branch. I've been here many times before, and even after a long gap it never lets me down, so I wanted to introduce it.

Where is Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong, and where do you park?
Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong Dongtan Namgwangjang Branch is on the Namgwangjang food street in Dongtan, and nearby public parking lots make it easy. It's so accessible that at mealtimes everyone from office workers to families keeps coming.
Parking at the nearby public lot is easy, so driving here was no stress at all.

Atmosphere and seating
Inside, the tables are well spaced and the place is kept clean. Solo diners and families sit together in a relaxed mood, and food comes out fast.
Even after a long time away, the familiar atmosphere felt kind of welcoming. There were people eating alone and plenty of family tables, so it was a comfortable meal. Food comes out quickly too, so you don't have to wait long, which I liked.

What's at the self bar?
The self bar is neat too: you can grab onions, pickled radish and more, and aprons, bowls, scissors and kids' chopsticks are there for self-service.

What I ordered: level 1 jjamppong, jajangmyeon, fried dumplings
Level 1 jjamppong / Jajangmyeon (black bean noodles) / Fried dumplings

Crispy outside, juicy inside fried dumplings
The fried dumplings at Bultina were golden, crispy outside and juicy inside. They came out first and looked delicious just sitting there.

Crispy outside and juicy inside, they're good on their own, and also great dipped in the jajang sauce or eaten with the jjamppong broth. One bite gives you the crunch and then a mouthful of moist filling, which really wakes up your appetite before the meal.

Jajangmyeon that isn't too sweet
The jajangmyeon at Bultina had plenty of glossy sauce and springy noodles. It came out quickly after the dumplings.

The sauce isn't too sweet and has just enough savory depth, so it was easy to finish without feeling heavy.

The onions and meat kept their texture, so even though it's a basic jajangmyeon, I was very satisfied. It's a flavor kids can eat easily too, so I thought it would be fine for a family visit.

How spicy is level 1 jjamppong, and how's the broth?
Level 1 jjamppong at Bultina is pleasantly spicy, easy to enjoy unless you really can't handle heat. The broth is rich yet clean, and I barely left any.
And then the jjamppong, the dish I was looking forward to most today. Yes, there's a reason I came back.

The moment it hits the table, that fiery aroma spreads, and just smelling it made my mouth water. I ordered level 1 this time, and it was pleasantly spicy, easy to enjoy unless you really can't handle heat.

It's not a harsh, aggressive spiciness; the deep flavor of the broth itself comes through, so my spoon kept going back. The broth was rich yet clean. Not heavy, it goes down refreshingly, and you keep eating spoonful after spoonful. That's probably why I left almost no broth by the end of the meal.

Noodles and toppings
I remembered this broth from before, and this time too I was satisfied for the same reason. The noodles kept a good chew and blended well with the broth, and the toppings were generous. With plenty of seafood and vegetables, it was fun to chew, and the fresh ingredients made the broth taste even cleaner. It reminded me again why a single bowl of jjamppong makes a satisfying meal.
