This time we ordered a generous spread: spicy grilled octopus to wake up the appetite, Cafe Dongyi's signature crispy-outside-juicy-inside tangsuyuk, and golden-fried handmade dumplings.

Grilled octopus: no spice adjustment, but not too hot

Grilled octopus: with a subtle smoky char and a spicy-sweet sauce that soaked well into the chewy octopus, it was a total rice-stealer!

Since spice levels can't be adjusted, I was a bit worried, so I prepared a fried egg from the 2nd floor self-bar just in case.

But once I tried it, it wasn't harsh or overly spicy at all — just the right amount of sweet-spicy that paired perfectly with the chewy octopus texture. Mixed into rice, it was truly a rice thief.

Tangsuyuk: crisp outside, tender inside, sauce not too sweet

Tangsuyuk: crispy batter packed with moist, substantial meat inside — a textbook example of crispy-outside-juicy-inside that anyone would love.

The sauce wasn't too sweet either, so it stayed clean and kept me coming back for more.

Handmade dumplings dipped in the octopus sauce

Handmade dumplings: with a plump, substantial filling, they were savory on their own, but dipped in the spicy octopus sauce, the tangy heat added an extra dimension for a fantastic pairing.

For dessert, they serve chilled omija tea, which cleanly reset the palate with a tangy finish, ending the meal on a good note.

Especially with the freely available egg self-bar and generous extra rice service, I could really feel the owner's warm hospitality.
