Pyeongando Restaurant Hwajeong Branch (평안도식당 화정점) is a 24-hour gukbap restaurant right in front of Deogyang-gu Office near Hwajeong Station, between Hwajeong CGV and the office. It was a rainy afternoon and I was craving something piping hot, so I stopped by!

How does parking work at Pyeongando Restaurant Hwajeong Branch?

There is a mechanical parking lot inside the building, but it only fits small cars. For anything bigger, I'd recommend the paid parking lot at Deogyang-gu Office across the street.

It was a rainy day, so the exterior shots came out a bit dark~ Being open 24 hours, every day, is its signature, right? It sits between Hwajeong CGV and Deogyang-gu Office, so it was easy to find.

Is Pyeongando Restaurant Hwajeong Branch good for group dinners?

The interior is mostly 4-person tables, with sofa seating along the walls, so groups looked like they'd have no problem eating here~ Deogyang-gu Office is right across the way, so I'd recommend it for office team dinners or after-work get-togethers!

How much are the set meals at Pyeongando Restaurant Hwajeong Branch?

  • Pyeongando sundae-guk set (sundae soup set) ₩15,000

You sit down, order on the tablet at your table, and pay after the meal~ We went with the set meals, but the à la carte menu also has gamjatang (pork bone stew), stir-fried sundae on an iron plate, and jeongol (hot pot), so I thought it would be great for choosing dishes with a group.

What side dishes and seasonings come with the meal?

On the table there were perilla powder, salted shrimp, daedagi (seasoning paste), pepper and salt, so you can season to your taste.

The basic side dishes were napa cabbage kimchi, kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi), onions, Cheongyang chili peppers, garlic, ssamjang (dipping paste), chives and more~

Once you finish the basic sides, you can refill whatever you need at the self-serve corner. No wasting food though~

Next to the self-serve corner there was a high chair, and it seems staff will bring one over if you need it! Aprons were also hanging on the walls all around the restaurant, and I loved that thoughtful touch 🥹

What comes in the Pyeongando sundae-guk set?

The Pyeongando sundae-guk set at Pyeongando Restaurant Hwajeong Branch comes with the soup plus pyeonyuk (sliced boiled pork) and sundae (Korean blood sausage). Usually you only get a small taste portion, but there are 5 slices each of pyeonyuk and sundae. See how generous that is?

How did the Pyeongando sundae-guk taste?

The Pyeongando sundae-guk is made with a clear, milky-white bone broth (sagol). It arrives boiling hot in a ttukbaegi (earthenware pot), which feels like a stamp of approval for a good restaurant!

Look at how much stuff is in there... By the way, you can choose mixed, meat only or sundae only for the soup, and I ordered the mixed gukbap!

How was the beef offal soup set?

The beef offal soup my companion ordered was packed with bean sprouts and offal, and the broth was milky and red, as if made on a bone base~ It wasn't salty and was easy to eat, so it was delicious without adding any extra seasoning!

How do you make sundae-guk taste best?

I added chives and pepper from the side dishes to my taste. Plus perilla powder. Just from how it looks, I'm getting hungry as I write this post, ugh.

I like my food on the salty side, so I added a bit of salted shrimp before tasting... and no lie, it was the best sundae-guk I've had recently 👍 so I'm officially a regular now 👍

I ate the pyeonyuk, which had a hint of star anise, with salted shrimp too~ The set was so generous that I was stuffed, haha. And that's a clean plate, done ♥

When is Pyeongando Restaurant Hwajeong Branch a good choice?

Closing photo of Pyeongando Restaurant Hwajeong Branch, a 24-hour gukbap restaurant near Hwajeong Station

Pyeongando Restaurant Hwajeong Branch is an easy place to drop in anytime you want a hearty bowl of gukbap near Hwajeong Station and Deogyang-gu Office. The menu is varied, so there's plenty to choose from, and above all I liked that it's open 24 hours. It's perfect for a hangover soup after drinking, haha.

Also, Hwajeong CGV is right next door, and you often get hungry around early-morning or late-night movies, so it seemed super convenient for those times!

The one downside is that the mechanical parking lot in the building only fits small cars.
