Window-seat Indian restaurant in Hapjeong: cream-topped lassi, Mandala

In short

Mandala Indian Lounge is an Indian restaurant with floor-to-ceiling windows on the 3rd floor of a building near Exit 3 of Hapjeong Station in Mapo, Seoul. On a weekday lunch, the writer ordered two lunch sets for one (butter chicken and chicken tikka masala) and two plain lassis, and both curries tasted great with either rice or naan. Mandala Indian Lounge is a good pick for a weekday lunch of curry, naan and rice in a bright window seat.

I visited Mandala Indian Lounge (만다라 인도 라운지), a curry spot in Hapjeong! :) It's a clean Indian restaurant in Hapjeong-dong with big windows. By day you can enjoy Indian food in a tidy, bright setting, and in the evening it seems to serve alcohol and run like a lounge with music.

There's an Indian staff member too, so it has an exotic, local-India feel, even though it's in the Hongdae area! I went at lunchtime and tried the lunch set, which comes with curry, rice and naan together. Let me give you the details!

Location and how to get to Mandala Indian Lounge

Mandala Indian Lounge is on the 3rd floor of a building at 26 Dongmak-ro 3-gil, Mapo-gu, Seoul, on a side street in Hapjeong-dong, a 3–5 minute walk from Exit 3 of Hapjeong Station. There's no parking, so public transport is easier.

There's a staircase on the left side of the building leading up to the restaurant, which is on the 3rd floor.

Inside Mandala Indian Lounge: atmosphere and seating

The inside is clean, and the view outside through the big windows left an impression. With the Indian staff member there, it feels even more exotic.

There are about 9 tables, and a bar table at the back.

The lounge mood after 9 pm

From 9 pm the space fills with hookah (shisha water pipe) time and music, and apparently turns into a place for parties with foreign friends, stylish dates, and a hip Hapjeong–Hongdae vibe. Cocktails, wine, a variety of shisha and other drinks are available, and they say you can feel that hip Hapjeong–Hongdae atmosphere in full.

Bright window-view seats at lunchtime

I went at lunchtime, so I ate in the bright atmosphere by the big windows with a clear view outside~! I liked the daytime mood, haha.

Menu at Mandala Indian Lounge

The menu has set menus for couples, groups of three and families, plus lunch sets, tandoori, appetizers, salads, curries, fried rice, tandoor-oven dishes, naan, drinks and alcohol. Just order from the staff~~!

The weekday lunch set for one: what I ordered

The lunch set for one is available on weekdays only, and comes with one curry plus plain naan and rice. Here's what I ordered~!

  • Lunch set for one (weekdays only) – butter chicken + plain naan + rice
  • Lunch set for one (weekdays only) – chicken tikka masala + plain naan + rice
  • 2 plain lassis

The plain lassi and salad came first

First came the tableware, water, lassi (a yogurt drink) and salad~!

Plain lassi topped with whipped cream
Salad included in the lunch set

The plain lassi has whipped cream on top, so it's tangy and sweet! The salad is also included in the set, and it works nicely as an appetizer~!

Butter chicken curry and chicken tikka masala

After about 5 minutes of waiting, the curry sets arrived~!

Curry and naan of the lunch set for one

The curry and naan came plated in wide bowls~~!

The butter chicken curry was mild and smooth, at medium spice.

Mild butter chicken curry

The chicken tikka masala was a spicy curry~! The chicken inside was nicely savory to chew too, so good good~!

Chicken tikka masala with chicken pieces

The plain naan was chewy yet mild! The curry was fine with the rice, and just as good dipped with the naan. :)
