Friday-night retro Korean BBQ in Yeonsinnae: prime galbisal, Golmokjip

My husband and I went to a beef BBQ place near our home in Yeonsinnae on a Friday night, haha. It's Golmokjip Galbisal Yeonsinnae Main Branch (골목집갈비살 연신내본점), and I was so happy with it: full retro vibes and really good meat, lol. They take Seoul Pay and Onnuri Pay too, and you know paying with those is a better deal in Seoul, right? ;)

What's the retro pub atmosphere like in the Yeonsinnae food alley?

It's in the Yeonsinnae food alley, so it's easy to find! Haha. Head toward Rodeo Street and you'll spot it quickly. They also discount drinks on weekdays, so it seems good for a Friday night too!

We fell for the retro feel the moment we walked in, lol. The "Golmok Sikdang" (alley restaurant) sign inside and the old-school interior were so charming, and the lively, noisy mood made me think it's just right for a Friday night BBQ in Yeonsinnae, haha. There were even old magazines like the ones I used to read (seeing Pastel again was a treat).

As a hot spot in Yeonsinnae, it was pretty crowded. The tables were almost full, haha. Friday night is hot indeed! We had booked ahead, and I was still surprised by how many people there were, haha. I guess people come because the meat is good and the prices are good too.

Golmokjip menu and what we ordered for two

Here's the menu of Golmokjip Galbisal Yeonsinnae Main Branch :) There's pork belly, a beef rib platter, a really wide choice, and the best part is the friendly prices!!! Going down the menu there are platters (hanpan), and you can also order single items, so lots of variety! We debated single items but went with a platter, and at 500g it's plenty for two, haha.

• Terra + Jinro Is Back: ₩5,000 each

That's what we ordered, and it was enough for the two of us, ugh. I was so full, haha. With the doenjang rice stew on top, your stomach will burst!

The 500g galbisal platter: how's the meat quality?

The galbisal platter comes out as raw meat, and the marbling is seriously incredible!!! It's US prime grade beef rib meat, and the marbling was packed in so tightly that my mouth watered just looking at it, lol. The little wooden stopper engraved with "Golmokjip Galbisal" on top of the meat was so cute and full of charm, haha.

The meat quality was really good! Great value and tasty too, so it's honestly a solid choice, lol. Grill it over charcoal and oh my, how delicious it is, haha. It just melts away!

Sauces, side dishes and the doenjang stew

Three sauces (mustard sauce, wasabi and ssamjang, a seasoned soybean paste dip), plus side dishes of seaweed, garlic and kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi). The spread is solid, as you'd expect from a good BBQ place in Yeonsinnae~~~

The stew is the best too! Just like the doenjang rice stew, it's so tasty, haha. Finishing by mixing rice into the doenjang stew was really filling, lol.

Charcoal-grilled galbisal: how does it taste?

When the galbisal went on the charcoal grill, a rich, nutty aroma rose up and my appetite exploded, lol. One bite of the fully grilled galbisal!!! The juices from the marbling melt away, and the soft, nutty flavor was the real deal, haha.

My husband was totally satisfied too and declared it his new regular BBQ spot in Yeonsinnae, haha. And for the basic bites, you know it's salt, right?

Is it worth recommending as a retro pub for Friday night?

Golmokjip Galbisal Yeonsinnae Main Branch!!! Retro vibes + prime grade galbisal + doenjang stew included as a basic, with that combo there's really no reason not to come, lol. I'm so happy to have a BBQ place like this near home, haha. Highly recommended if you want meat for a Friday night dinner!!!

Yeonsinnae Station area has lots of pubs and BBQ places, but Golmokjip, the one we tried this time, is my real pick as a retro pub, haha. If you want to feel that 1990s vibe, I really recommend it!
