The first thing that caught my eye walking into Parang Haenyeojip Jongno Branch was the wave video playing across the entire wall. I'd thought of it as just a place to eat sashimi, but with the waves constantly moving, the whole atmosphere changed completely. Eating sashimi and seafood while watching the waves made me feel like I'd actually come to the seaside. Finding this kind of atmosphere right in the middle of Jongno felt refreshingly different, and I liked it.

The sashimi had that distinctive soft texture of aged sashimi while still feeling fresh. It was nice to taste each piece on its own and see how well it paired with the accompanying side dishes. Maybe because it was dinner out in Jongno after a long while, the food itself felt even more welcome.

When I eat sashimi, I tend not to load it up with too many sauces and prefer to taste the fish itself, and this aged sashimi was easy and enjoyable to eat that way too.

Stone sea squirt, a Korean seafood classic worth ordering

And the stone sea squirt I ordered alongside it.

Stone sea squirt has that distinctive ocean scent — people who like it really like it, and it can feel a bit unfamiliar for first-timers.

Since it had been a while, I liked how it felt like eating something straight from the sea. It's a different flavor from the aged sashimi, so mixing in the stone sea squirt kept the meal from feeling monotonous.
