Taejang Sikdang, a Suwon Station pork belly favorite: a naengsam spot that's a regular go-to for drinks in Suwon
Why do I keep going back to Taejang Sikdang Suwon Station Branch?
Taejang Sikdang Suwon Station Branch is a pork belly restaurant near Suwon Station that the writer keeps coming back to because every visit is satisfying. Every single time I'm satisfied, satisfied, totally satisfied, and my feet just carry me to Taejang Sikdang again... haha. I already like naengsam (thinly sliced frozen pork belly) anyway, but Taejang Sikdang is just plain delicious, T_T. Please go, you have to!

A pork belly place with outdoor-pub vibes by the 2nd-floor window
Taejang Sikdang Suwon Station Branch is on the 2nd floor, so now that the weather has turned cool, opening the windows wide gives you total yajang (outdoor street-pub) vibes. It's my again-again-again place!! I go to Suwon Station often, so I stop by Taejang Sikdang regularly, haha. It's my very own "go-again" restaurant, haha. The place is clean, quite spacious and good value! And the meat is sooo yummy, haha.
Being on the 2nd floor, it was cool and the atmosphere was just right. The window seats were all full, but one party left right away, and a staff member thoughtfully cleared the table and offered to move us to the window seats!! (All the staff are so kind 🥹)

Retro arcade machine and a butcher corner
The restaurant has a slightly retro feel, and this arcade machine really works, haha. It's a little embarrassing, but it'd be fun to bet on a game with friends, lol.

At the back there's a butcher shop corner, which is a neat touch. They slice the meat right there and you can see the weight in grams, so you can eat with confidence!

How are the side dishes and sauces at Taejang Sikdang?
Taejang Sikdang Suwon Station Branch has a wide range of banchan (side dishes) like fernbrake and bean sprouts, plus many sauces, so the meat never gets boring. The sides are really varied too. The fernbrake and bean sprouts are both so good, and with so many sauces there's no time to get tired of the meat,,
The egg-yolk soy sauce in the middle is surprisingly good with the meat. Put wasabi on top and it's delicious!!!! There's also something like ground breadcrumbs? That's perfect as a palate cleanser before the meat. Eating it when you're hungry is insanely good T_T.

Frozen vs. regular pork belly: regular this time
Taejang Sikdang Suwon Station Branch serves both frozen pork belly and regular pork belly, and the writer has had both and found both delicious. But today I just felt like regular pork belly, so off we went~~ Every time I see it, all I think is that they use good meat..? The color of the meat makes your mouth water the moment it's brought out, lol haha.
The staff put the meat and sides on the grill at the start, so you just roughly grill and eat, haha. The regular pork belly is also on the thin side, so it cooks fast! It comes pre-cut, so it's easy to eat without cutting. The portion looks small? But it's surprisingly generous.

Side dish refills: bean sprouts are a must
There are lots of things to eat alongside the meat at Taejang Sikdang, which makes it even more satisfying, haha. Refills are available, so you can eat as much as you like!.! I always get a bean sprout refill,,
The time while it's turning golden brown is the hardest to bear, haha. Since it comes pre-cut, you only need to snip it a little before eating, which is convenient!!!

The pork belly at Taejang Sikdang is good value and tastes great, so I find myself craving it regularly. I'm a pork belly nomad who wanders around trying different places, but Taejang Sikdang is a true go-to that I visit whenever my "cooldown" is full.

Taejang Sikdang side menu: doenjang stew and cheese steamed egg
Reason number 2 that Taejang Sikdang Suwon Station Branch is my again-again-again place: the side menu is insanely good!! I've ordered lots of other sides too, and both the doenjang stew (soybean paste stew) and the soft tofu stew were delicious. And my all-time favorite steamed egg: nowhere else piles on the cheese like this.

See how packed the doenjang stew is?? Eaten with the meat, a whole earthenware pot disappears in no time. Taejang Sikdang's steamed egg is normally loaded with cheese and thick and rich, but this time it was a moister, less thick steamed egg. I liked the moist one too??? If you like cheese, definitely try it.
If you're looking for a pork belly restaurant near Suwon Station, I recommend Taejang Sikdang 👍
