Suwon Station tonkatsu: sweet potato cheese katsu, spicy sauce, Gohobi
In short
Gohobi Katsu (고호비카츠) is a Japanese tonkatsu restaurant with L-shaped counter seating on Maesan-ro in Paldal-gu, Suwon, 525m from Suwon Station Exit 8. The writer and her boyfriend ordered the sweet potato mousse cheese katsu (16,000 won) and the hire katsu (pork tenderloin) set (14,000 won), added the curry and spicy sauce Gohobi Katsu serves on request, and got a rice refill. The sweet potato mousse cheese katsu, packed with cold sweet potato mousse and plenty of cheese, tasted best with the spicy sauce.

I was craving tonkatsu for the first time in ages that day, you know? If I was going to eat it, I wanted a really good place, so I searched around and found Gohobi Katsu!! It's a teeny bit of a walk from Suwon Station, but it looked so good that we just went for it.

What are the seats and atmosphere like at Gohobi Katsu?
All the seats at Gohobi Katsu are L-shaped counter seats (dacchi-seok), and they weren't cramped at all! It's just right for a cozy meal for a couple or friends. The place is clean and has a nice mood, so I think it'd be good for a date, or even for coming in the evening for a beer!

Gohobi Katsu menu and the limited-quantity Sangrosu katsu
The menu at Gohobi Katsu has tonkatsu made with loin or tenderloin, plus things like cheese katsu and sweet potato cheese katsu!! There's also the signature Sangrosu katsu (상로스카츠), made from the loin cap (gabrisal). It's limited quantity, so once it's gone, it's gone T_T I missed it this time too, so I'm going to try it next time haha.
There's also cold soba (naengmomil), udon and karaage (Japanese fried chicken) to go with your katsu, which would be nice to share.

They also had cute disposable chopstick rests set out. I used one for the mood haha. I'm someone who dips a lot in tonkatsu sauce, and Gohobi Katsu has sauce you can help yourself to as much as you like, plus a cabbage sauce you can have to taste!

Gohobi Katsu has an open kitchen, so expect about 10 minutes after ordering
Gohobi Katsu has an open kitchen, so you can see everything being made and eat with peace of mind! Each katsu is made right after you order, so it takes about 10 minutes, but you get hotter, crispier tonkatsu for it!
I took these photos while waiting for the tonkatsu to be made at Gohobi Katsu. The open kitchen felt hygienic, which I liked. I ordered the hire katsu set made with tenderloin and the sweet potato mousse cheese katsu. Sweet potato cheese tonkatsu is my all-time favorite,, and everyone was so kind from the moment we walked in, which made the meal even better haha. Tonkatsu is a soul food nobody really dislikes, so it'd be a good pick for a Suwon Station lunch date course.

Are curry, spicy sauce and rice refills available at Gohobi Katsu?
At Gohobi Katsu near Suwon Station, rice and broth come as standard, and curry and spicy sauce are given when you ask. Rice can be refilled!! A separate little dish for the sauce (the one with breadcrumbs sprinkled on it?) comes out too.
The curry is free when you eat in, so definitely ask for it. The curry was seriously delicious. I'd already polished off half a bowl of rice before the tonkatsu even arrived..!
Also!! I really love spicy sauce, and they give that on request too! When you're eating tonkatsu, it can get a little heavy, right? A bit of spicy sauce is the perfect fix!!
I don't eat much, but for people who eat a lot of rice with their tonkatsu, a small bowl is disappointing. My boyfriend eats a lot of rice too.. so he refilled right away and finished two bowls haha.

Gohobi Katsu sweet potato mousse cheese katsu, ₩16,000: taste and portion
The sweet potato mousse cheese katsu at Gohobi Katsu is ₩16,000, and it comes topped with a generous heap of sweet potato mousse. It's totally my taste,, there's a lot of cheese inside too, and I was exclaiming the whole way through. This is what sweet potato tonkatsu should be!!
The sweet potato mousse was slightly cold, which I think made it even better. The sweet potato mousse cheese katsu went best with the spicy sauce, so definitely try them together haha. It's only four pieces, but I got too full to finish it all... the portion is really big lol.

Gohobi Katsu hire katsu set (tenderloin), ₩14,000
The hire katsu set (tenderloin) at Gohobi Katsu is ₩14,000. I thought it was just regular tonkatsu, but the meat was really thick and so tender!! It wasn't dry at all, and I devoured it haha.
The hire katsu is good dipped in salt, and it was also amazing dipped in tonkatsu sauce and eaten with rice. If you're looking for a good tonkatsu place near Suwon Station, I recommend it!! Stop by Gohobi Katsu when you can't decide on lunch, or when you want rice and a beer in the evening.
