Yongsan tteokbokki, parking tip & medium combo for 2: Hyeonseonine
In short
Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch is a tteokbokki (spicy rice cake) and bunsik (Korean snack food) restaurant on Yongridan-gil in Yongsan, Seoul. The writer parked in a paid lot a 1-minute walk away (4,000 won per hour), and two people finished the medium-spicy Hyeonseonine combo set (26,000 won) without leaving anything. Verdict: the brothy, school-snack-style tteokbokki, topped with fry crumbs from the self-bar, was exactly to the writer's taste.

Where to park for Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch
The shop has no parking of its own, so you use a lot a 1-minute walk away. It costs ₩4,000 per hour.
The man at the parking lot was very kind. It doesn't seem to show up in the Modu-ui Juchajang (모두의 주차장) parking app. I was going to park somewhere else, but he said that lot was full and pointed me to this one, and it turned out much closer and better.
What is the atmosphere like at Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch?
The shop is spacious and comfortable, which honestly surprised me.

About 30 seconds? after parking, there it was: Hyeonseonine, like a super cute little dollhouse with a red roof!! So adorable >.<!!!
The waiting bench is so pretty too.

It doesn't seem to be working, but there's also a claw machine packed with adorable Hyeonseonine meal-kit-style products.

Can a tteokbokki shop really be this pretty! Hehe
The inside is very clean and comfortable! The ceiling is high and the space is really open. There are ceiling fans and lights, so it doesn't feel stuffy at all, and the tables are spaced widely apart, so you can chat and eat comfortably without worrying about the people around you!

How to book and order at Hyeonseonine, plus the review event
You can reserve or join the waitlist through Catch Table, and you can order at the kiosk or in person~~ If you write a Naver review, you can get either a cold slush or a tteokbokki size-up.

What's at the Hyeonseonine self-bar?
The self-bar at Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch has the following, and you fetch water from the water purifier!
- Pickled radish (danmuji)
- Fry crumbs
- Small plates
- Utensils
- Soy sauce
- Salt
- Aprons, and so on
A self-bar with fry crumbs>.< The fry crumbs are really the kicker.
How much is the Hyeonseonine combo set, and what's in it?
The Hyeonseonine combo set is ₩26,000 and comes with gimbap (seaweed rice roll), sundae (Korean blood sausage), fish cake, fried snacks and tteokbokki all at once. We ordered it medium spice.

The menu stuck on the fridge is big and easy to read. We ordered the Hyeonseonine combo set. I usually like spicy and was going to order the spicy one, but these days spicy food upsets my stomach quickly, so we went with medium haha. Medium is plenty tasty and spicy enough.
Wow, it's a tteokbokki place but they sell soju, bottled beer and draft beer too ❤️ Totally my style, but I'm not drinking lately, so just tteokbokki for me.

Waaaaaah the Hyeonseonine combo looks so good!!! It's a set of gimbap, sundae, fish cake, fried snacks and tteokbokki,

Doesn't the tray, fully loaded, look just gorgeous? The table is about to collapse! Tteokbokki, fried snacks and sundae, plus gimbap and fish cake: the full course.

How does Hyeonseonine's medium-spicy tteokbokki taste?
Hyeonseonine's wheat rice cake tteokbokki sits in a shallow layer of red sauce, and the sweet-spicy sauce soaks right in, so it's sooo good,,

The sauce is thin enough to be really great for dipping fried snacks and sundae. The thickness is just right, not watery and not too heavy, a delicious consistency.

It's like the tteokbokki I ate in front of school back in the day,, I ate tteokbokki every single day as a kid, but these days it's hard to find a place that tastes like that. And Hyeonseonine's tteokbokki tastes just like it. It's really good ㅜㅜ

Fried snacks, gimbap, sundae and fish cake: how were the sides?
Crispy assorted fried snacks, nutty mini gimbap, tender sundae and chewy offal (zero fishy smell), and a hot fish cake skewer. Such a perfect combination.

Dunk the fish cake into the tteokbokki sauce too, then yum!

Self-bar tip: sprinkle fry crumbs on the tteokbokki
Sprinkle the fry crumbs from the self-bar over the tteokbokki sauce and scoop them up with the rice cakes: the crispy texture makes it really amazing. Having fry crumbs ready means they really know their stuff ㅜ

The hot fish cake broth cleans your palate. The two of us totally stuffed ourselves haha. Isn't this supposed to be for 3 people..? Two of us ate it all ㅜㅜ So good

Instant tteokbokki or the combo tteokbokki: which is better?
As a proper popular spot, Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch was bustling even on a weekday, and plenty of people sat on the bench waiting for takeout.
Back when I worked at IFC, I tried Hyeonseonine's instant tteokbokki with my work friends. Comparing the two, both instant and pre-cooked tteokbokki are good, but the combo tteokbokki is way more my taste>.< Just order whichever suits you, I think.
Final verdict on Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch
There are so many tteokbokki franchises these days, but Hyeonseonine's tteokbokki is right up my alley. It tastes just like the tteokbokki place in the neighborhood I lived in as a little kid. So so good,,, If you're looking for a proper snack bar near Yongsan or Sinyongsan, I recommend Hyeonseonine!!
