Sunhwa-dong pasta restaurant with an EV parking discount, Daejeon
In short
Plate is a fresh pasta restaurant in Sunhwa-dong, Jung-gu, Daejeon. On a weekday evening visit with a 4-year-old, the writer ordered white vongole with squid ink spaghetti and steak cream ragu with pappardelle, added the 4,000 won set to both, and got a 50% EV discount at Sunhwa-dong Public Parking Lot No. 2. Between the 12 fresh noodles to choose from and the generous set, Plate works just as well for dinner with a child as it does for a date.

[Parking info for Plate in Sunhwa-dong] There's no dedicated parking lot, but there's a public lot nearby.
It's Sunhwa-dong Public Parking Lot No. 2, at 29 Daejong-ro 521beon-gil, Jung-gu, Daejeon. As you'd expect from a public lot, the fees were pretty cheap, and when I pressed the call button at payment and mentioned I was driving an EV, I even got a 50% discount.

From the parking lot entrance to the restaurant is under 100m, about a 3-minute walk.

What is the dining room at Plate like?
The interior isn't huge, but the tables are spaced well enough apart for a comfortable meal. It looked like a great spot for a couple's date, too.

Choosing from 12 fresh noodles: what we ordered at Plate
As a fresh pasta specialist, Plate's biggest strength is letting you pick your favorite noodle. With 12 types on offer, it's genuinely fun to choose.
Even someone as indecisive as me could order without much trouble since the recommended noodles were marked! I went with white vongole paired with squid ink spaghetti, and steak cream ragù paired with pappardelle, and added 4,000 won for the set.

We visited with our baby, and they kindly gave us baby cutlery too, which was really convenient.

What the 4,000 won set adds: bread, salad, and soup
Order the set and you get a generous spread of bread, salad, and soup beforehand. I highly, highly recommend getting the set!

The bread was in that familiar Outback bushman bread style that everyone loves.

The dipping sauce was delicious and the bread was warm, so we polished it off in no time.

And then the salad, best eaten before the main course. It's a good appetizer to whet your appetite, and eating salad first is also just a smart order for your health.

I thought it'd be a simple salad, but the dressing turned out to be genuinely delicious.

It felt less like an appetizer and more like an actual dish thanks to that sauce! The textures were varied too, so it was fun to chew, and honestly I really enjoyed it.

The soup was excellent as well — that old-school Korean-style breaded pork cutlet restaurant soup style.

Nicely thick without being greasy, and savory and delicious.

White vongole with squid ink spaghetti at Plate
Even with the place packed, the main dishes came out faster than expected!

[White vongole with squid ink spaghetti]
[Steak cream ragù with pappardelle]

The white vongole was a spicy pasta with clams, scallops, and cheongyang peppers, in a broth-forward sauce with a strong garlic aroma.

I chose the squid ink spaghetti since it was the recommended noodle, and I could see why. The vongole and the ink noodles paired together better than I expected.
Being fresh noodles, the texture was excellent too, and cooked just right.

Steak cream ragu with pappardelle, shared with a 4-year-old
The steak cream ragù pasta was a slightly unusual dish — my first time trying anything like it.

I went with pappardelle, the recommended noodle, and the noodles were seriously wide. Those wide noodles held onto a generous amount of sauce, so each mouthful was a party in my mouth!!

The generous topping of steak looked like flap meat, cooked just right and sliced thin so it wasn't chewy — really tasty. Since it wasn't spicy, it was a dish our 4-year-old could share with us too.
This pasta was, how should I put it, kind of like a Korean soup-and-rice style dish... it's clearly pasta, but it felt like eating a rich ox bone broth soup. I love that kind of hearty soup, so personally I really enjoyed it. The meaty depth of flavor was great. The kitchen's fundamentals are clearly strong here — it was almost a shame I only got to try two dishes.
If you're looking for a date spot or a great fresh pasta restaurant in Sunhwa-dong, Daejeon, I'd recommend giving Plate a try!
