Sillim salad restaurant for people living alone: Beef Cobb at Prepers

Prepers Diet Food Sillim Main Branch is a salad and diet food restaurant on 2 floors near Exit 3 of Sillim Station in Gwanak, Seoul. Two friends who live alone in Sillim ordered a Beef Cobb Plate combo (extra sweet pumpkin, lemon garlic sauce) and a Beef Wasabi Rice Bowl combo at the kiosk and shared them. Verdict: Prepers is a good place to fill up on the vegetables that are hard to keep up with when you live alone, with your own choice of toppings and sauce.

Bakery café by Yeongdeungpo-gu Office: first wakppu salt bread, BYWAY

BYWAY BAKERS Yeongdeungpo Branch is a bakery café in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul, about a 3-minute walk from Yeongdeungpo-gu Office Station and right in front of Dangsan Park. The writer made a meal and dessert of the Seoul wakppu salt bread (a crisp salt bread you crack open while wearing plastic gloves) filled with yogurt cream and fresh mango, a potato cheese bagel, butter tteok (buttery rice cake) and coffee. Trying wakppu salt bread for the first time, the writer was a huge fan of its crackly crunch and the yogurt cream and fresh mango pairing.

Jongno noodle shop for one: Sichuan noodles, shrimp dim sum, Cheonghwa

Cheonghwa Uyuk Dosakmyeon is a Taiwanese-style beef knife-cut noodle and dim sum restaurant on Pimatgol street near Jonggak Station in Jongno, Seoul. After a first visit with a friend, the writer came back alone, ordered the spicy Sichuan-style beef knife-cut noodles instead of the original, and picked the two shrimp dim sum out of three: shumai and crystal dumplings. Verdict: Cheonghwa Uyuk Dosakmyeon is a good rainy-day spot for chewy knife-cut noodles and plump shrimp dim sum on your own.

Halal Steaks is a halal restaurant in Hongdae (Mapo, Seoul), on the second floor of an alley about 7 minutes' walk from Hongik Univ. Station Exit 9 toward Sangsang Madang, where Halal Guys reopened after relocating. On a solo visit, the writer ordered a gyro platter, a drink and Secret Fries as a side. Fluffy Bake Shop works well for a sweet afternoon snack and for gift or thank-you boxes.

Chimney Mansion has no parking lot of its own, so drivers can use a nearby public lot or the Samyun private lot.

Gwanak sandwich restaurant for a solo meal with two sides: Daily Fix

Daily Fix Seoul National University Entrance is a handmade burger and sandwich restaurant a 3-minute walk from Exit 2 of Seoul National University Entrance Station in Gwanak, Seoul. Dining alone, the writer ordered three things — a Philly cheesesteak sandwich, chili cheese fries and onion rings — and the rich meat and melted cheese inside the ciabatta and the crisp-outside, tender-inside onion rings stood out. Solo dining is easy at Daily Fix, but clearing all the sides is a job for a group.
