I was looking for a café with a good atmosphere in Tanbang-dong lately and ended up at Reelbakers. I'd seen a few photos on social media, and even the exterior had an overseas feel that made me curious.

Once I went in, I understood right away why it's so popular. It goes beyond what people usually call a pretty café; the mood of the space itself is really good.

It felt like walking into a bakery café in a laneway in Melbourne or Sydney, Australia. It's the kind of place that makes even a single cup of coffee feel a little more relaxed.

Where is Reelbakers, and is it easy to get to?
Reelbakers is on Munjeong-ro in Tanbang-dong, Seo-gu, Daejeon, so access is pretty good. It's not far from City Hall Station, so it's easy by public transport, and it's a perfect spot for a second round of coffee after a meal nearby.
Reelbakers interior: high ceilings, natural light and big plants
The first thing that caught my eye as I walked in was the high ceiling. It makes the space look much bigger and there's no stuffy feeling at all. Add the natural light coming through the large windows, and it feels even brighter and airier during the day.

What impressed me most were the large plants dotted around. It's not just a few plants dropped in; they blend naturally into the space and create a natural vibe. The wood-tone interior and the green plants work together, so it feels trendy and comfortable at the same time.

Some people were working on laptops or reading alone, and plenty of guests were chatting over coffee with friends. The seats are fairly well spaced, so it's a fine café to stay in for a long time.

How varied is the bakery lineup at Reelbakers?
True to its name, Reelbakers has a really varied bakery lineup. From croissants to salt bread, pastries and sweet desserts, it's all there.

The smell of freshly baked bread greets you as soon as you step in, and there are so many kinds that choosing is hard. Each loaf and pastry looks great too, so you end up browsing in front of the display for a long while. Maybe that's why many guests who came just for coffee seemed to order bakery items as well.

If you're looking for a bakery in Tanbang-dong, Daejeon, I think you'll be very satisfied. Next visit I'm definitely trying the salt bread and croissant. They're such famous items that I'm looking forward to them.
How are the cinnamon roll and coffee at Reelbakers?
This time at Reelbakers I ordered a coffee and a cinnamon roll.

Cinnamon roll: gentle cinnamon aroma and butter flavor
The cinnamon roll smelled really good from the start. The cinnamon wasn't too strong, and the sweet icing on top was just right, so it wasn't overwhelming. The dough was moist and soft, and with every bite you naturally start thinking of coffee.

It isn't just a sugary cinnamon roll; the cinnamon aroma and the butter flavor both come through well, so anyone who likes desserts should be happy with it.

Coffee: balanced, without strong acidity
The coffee was better than I expected too. It isn't strongly acidic and it's well balanced, the kind of style anyone can drink comfortably. It goes well with the bakery items, so I'd recommend ordering them together.

Why I recommend Reelbakers as a Tanbang-dong café
These days there are lots of pretty cafés, but sometimes the coffee or desserts are a bit disappointing. Reelbakers satisfied me on both space and taste. The high ceiling means nothing feels stuffy, and with the natural light and plants added in, it's a café where you want to stay a long time.
Photos come out well, and it's also nice for quietly enjoying coffee, so I'd recommend it for a date, a café tour with a friend, or a solo café visit. If you're looking for a atmospheric café in Tanbang-dong, it's worth one visit. Next time I plan to go back for the salt bread and croissant. It's a café I'll think of on days when I want coffee and bakery together. ☕🌿
