Is Cafe Dongyi a café or a Korean restaurant?

The name sounds like a café, but this is actually a Korean restaurant in Chimsan-dong! The building is Building E of the Samseong Changjo Campus dormitory, and the ivy-covered walls are really striking.

At the entrance there's a menu signboard and plenty of notices.

How does the waitlist work at Cafe Dongyi Chimsan Branch?

There's often a wait, so register on the Tabling device at the entrance. Lots of people come here looking for a good meal in Chimsan-dong, and while you wait there's hovenia tea (헛개차) ready for you. And honestly, it's delicious ^^ Have a cup!

Inside Cafe Dongyi Chimsan Branch and its self-service bar

Inside, the tables face the kitchen, and by the windows there are seats for 4 and for 2.

Right as you walk in, there's a self-service bar. You can fry your own eggs there, so place your order and go make some ^^

Fried eggs by Mr. Yumyum!! Two for Mr. Yumyum?? And one for me?? haha

There's also barley gangjeong (crunchy barley snack) and seasoned seaweed at the bar, so help yourself!!! I didn't realize the seaweed was there and only brought some later. Oh no!! I've been here a few times and still forgot, haha

Cafe Dongyi really cares about its rice. They say they source grade-1 Gimpo golden rice from the DMZ Cheongjeonggu Station area directly, so the rice is as fresh as it gets.

There's a Naver receipt review event too, so be sure to join in!!

How much is the spicy pork + tangsuyuk Large Table Set, and what's in it?

This time I ordered the spicy pork + tangsuyuk Large Table Set for ₩36,900 and a Sprite for ₩2,000.

Cafe Dongyi has Large Table Sets for 2-4 people and a good range of solo menus too. They come on a single-person tray, so it's great for eating alone.

Basic Large Table Set spread with bibimbap ingredients and bowls of rice

This is the basic spread that came out first: doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew), the basic bibimbap ingredients and bowls of rice.

Side dishes with salt and wasabi at Cafe Dongyi Chimsan Branch

The side dishes are neat and clean, and I like that salt, wasabi and so on come out for the tangsuyuk.

Spicy pork and tangsuyuk served on a brazier

The spicy pork (jeyuk bokkeum) and tangsuyuk come on a brazier so they stay warm. Two dishes share one spot. It's fun that tangsuyuk is part of it.

The big pieces of tangsuyuk get cut small, then a dunk in the sauce~~ crispy tangsuyuk meets sweet sauce!!

Ooh!! There's rice cake in it too!! You love that kind of thing, right~

The spicy pork is great with rice, and it's good with sprouts or wrapped in seaweed.

Tangsuyuk is good with wasabi too, so trying it different ways makes it even tastier. Spicy pork with sprouts is a decent combo as well.

Doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew)

The doenjang jjigae in the Large Table Set is full of deep, nutty flavor. Even better stirred into your bibimbap~

Yeolmu bibimbap with fried eggs and seaweed wraps

I like that you make your own bibimbap here. Yeolmu (young summer radish) comes in by default, which makes it even tastier!!

Self-serve bibimbap ingredients with yeolmu

Add the fried egg you cooked and you're ready!! Let's dig in!! Yum yum~

I put spicy pork on top, and dried radish strips too.

You know bibimbap wrapped in seaweed is great too, right?? The seaweed isn't salty, so it paired nicely~

I finished with omija tea (five-flavor berry tea)~ I almost didn't need the Sprite. Both the omija tea and the hovenia tea were a clean way to end the meal.
