Jung-gu, Daegu bossam with a pizza-wide potato pancake: Uldong Bossam
In short
Uldong Bossam (울동보쌈) is a bossam (boiled pork wraps) restaurant on Gyeongsanggamyeong-gil in Gyo-dong, Jung-gu, Daegu, with a single-serving bossam set that makes eating alone easy. Two diners each ordered the bossam set with extra meat (12,900 won each), plus a potato pancake (9,000 won) and a Fanta (2,000 won), and paired the pork with a soy sauce made with freshly ground sesame, thin dried radish strips and a crispy potato pancake baked as wide as a pizza. Uldong Bossam is a versatile Gyo-dong bossam spot, good for a solo office-worker lunch or an evening group dinner.

What does the exterior look like, and is it easy to find?
Uldong Bossam is directly across from the main gate of Daegu City Hall's Dongin annex, and just a 1–2 minute walk from Dongin-dong Jjimgalbi (braised short rib) Alley, so it's easy to find. The red brick exterior is lovely, and the wooden door adds even more charm~

The potted plants and green metal chairs are pretty too~
Inside Uldong Bossam: seats for solo diners and groups
The restaurant has lots of 4-person tables plus 1-person and 2-person seats, so everything from eating alone to a group meal works. The whole place is clean and tidy too.

Clean and no-fuss, through and through. Do have a cup of the plum tea (maesil-cha) you see right as you walk in~

The seats set a little further in at the side are comfortable even for a big group. They're good for all kinds of gatherings and company dinners. There are also baby chairs, so it's a nice place for a family meal out.
What we ordered at Uldong Bossam and the prices
This day at Uldong Bossam I ordered the bossam set with extra meat (₩12,900) for two people, plus a potato pancake (₩9,000) and a Fanta (₩2,000).
- Bossam set (extra meat) ₩12,900, 2 people
- Potato pancake ₩9,000
- Fanta ₩2,000

Here's what today's bossam set comes with~

Uldong Bossam has small, medium and large anju (dishes to go with drinks), and a single-serving bossam set. You order on a tablet at the table, which is convenient.

How was the bossam set with extra meat?
The bossam (boiled pork wraps) at Uldong Bossam is moist and tender with no gamey smell, and it comes as a single-serving tray, so it's great for a workday lunch. There's a regular bossam set, but we love meat, so we went with extra meat haha

Soy sauce with sesame seeds you grind yourself
This is the soy sauce. You grind the sesame seeds that come with the set, grind grind grind~!!! It's fun grinding the sesame, and then you just pour the soy sauce over it. Dip the bossam in this sauce and it's heavenly~

Dip it right in the sauce and it tastes so good. I like that the soy sauce isn't salty. The bossam is moist and tender with no gamey smell!! So silky~

Pickled onion and thin dried radish
The bossam here goes well with onion pickles (yangpaji), and it's tasty with the thin dried radish (mumallaengi) too. I'd never had thin dried radish with bossam before, and it's appealing.

Try a bit of everything: it's good with salted shrimp, and with doenjang (fermented soybean paste) and minari (water dropwort) too, it all goes well~ So yummy~~

Is the potato pancake a good side dish?
The potato pancake (₩9,000) comes out wide and round like a pizza, and it's crisp from the edge to the middle. I ordered it as a side, and it's a nutty pancake whose crunch lasts to the very end.
Dip it in ketchup and it's just right~ Crisp from the edge all the way inside!!

A totally delicious meal, done in no time!!
Verdict: from a solo lunch to an evening group meal
Uldong Bossam is a place where you can eat a single-serving tray of neatly boiled bossam with homestyle side dishes. The chewy, moist bossam with the thin dried radish is appealing, and the two go together harmoniously.
It suits a workday lunch near Daegu City Hall in Jung-gu, and the quick table turnover looks good for busy hours. In the evening it's also right for a group dinner with suyuk (boiled pork) and jeongol (hot pot). If you want a filling meal in Gyo-dong, or tasty bossam near Dongseong-ro, this is a good Gyo-dong spot to visit.
