Dochi (my partner) picked me up when work ended, and we headed out for lamb skewers for the first time in ages. There are quite a few good lamb skewer places near Dongdaegu Station, but we wanted somewhere clean and tidy, so we went to Yangbokjeom Dongdaegu Station Branch.

How do you park at Yangbokjeom Dongdaegu Station Branch?

The restaurant has no parking lot of its own, so you leave your car in a nearby paid lot and walk over. The green exterior really catches the eye, so it was easy to find.

We parked in a nearby paid lot and walked over -

Inside Yangbokjeom and the weekday wait

The interior has a retro feel, with more space further in and what looked like private rooms. We arrived right after work and sat down with no wait, but a waiting line started soon after we sat.

Retro-style interior of Yangbokjeom Dongdaegu Station Branch

True to the name Yangbokjeom (it sounds like "suit shop"), there's a cute framed picture of a sheep wearing a suit. There's more seating inside too, but it was already full of people, so I couldn't get all my photos. There also seemed to be a private room, which looked great for group gatherings!!

We rushed over the moment work ended, so there was no wait, but a line started not long after we sat down. A wait on a weekday too,, I think we picked a great lamb skewer place in Dongdaegu.

What the two of us ordered at Yangbokjeom

For the two of us, we ordered 2 servings of Yangbokjeom jumbo skewers, okmyeon, fried rice, Coke Zero and Sprite Zero. Dochi and I seriously agonized over the menu for ages, deciding what to add to the lamb skewers,,

  • Yangbokjeom jumbo skewers, 2 servings
  • Okmyeon (corn noodle soup)
  • Fried rice
  • Coke Zero, Sprite Zero
Yangbokjeom table set with charcoal and side dishes

The charcoal came first, and then the side dishes were set out.

Here come the jumbo skewers! They come as fresh, unfrozen lamb, and you can see the quality just by looking. Each skewer is pretty hefty.

Lamb skewers loaded onto the automatic rotating grill

We loaded on a good number of skewers and watched them grill. We didn't have to turn them ourselves, because the grill rotates them 360 degrees on its own and grills them perfectly, which makes it great for chatting and having a drink. Dochi wanted a drink too, but since we'd come by car, sadly we made do with soft drinks.

Watching the skewers cook so nicely made me hungry.

How to eat lamb skewers at Yangbokjeom, and the seasonings

The table has instructions on how to enjoy lamb skewers, and there are curry powder, chuanliao (a chili dipping mix), cumin (zira) and pink salt ready. We set up the seasonings on our small plates ahead of time, as the instructions said, and followed along.

There was a guide to eating lamb skewers well, so we gave it a try.

Next to it were curry powder, chuanliao, cumin and even pink salt.

We set the sauces out on our plates like this and watched the skewers grill.

Extra lamb skewers added to the grill

So we wouldn't run out while waiting, we loaded on more skewers. Can't wait for lamb skewers -

A perfectly grilled Yangbokjeom lamb skewer

I picked up a perfectly grilled skewer and tried it, and there's honestly no gamey smell at all, it's clean-tasting and so good. Dipping it evenly in the seasonings seems to be the best way!

How were the lamb skewers with okmyeon and fried rice?

The fried rice at Yangbokjeom Dongdaegu Station Branch was fluffy and generous, and the okmyeon had a spicy, hearty broth full of corn noodles. Eaten with the clean-tasting lamb skewers, it was the best combination.

Fried rice and okmyeon ordered as sides

While we were eating, the fried rice and okmyeon we ordered as sides arrived. The combo we picked was seriously the best,, because everything was so good.

First, the nicely stir-fried, fluffy fried rice. The portion is enormous.

Okmyeon with a spicy broth

The okmyeon is packed with corn noodles, and the spicy, hearty broth is the kicker.

Scooping okmyeon corn noodles into a bowl

Corn noodles are high in starch and can stick together quickly, so I stirred them around and scooped them out fast.

A bite of okmyeon corn noodles soaked in broth

After eating the corn noodles soaked in broth, it really does make you want a drink, just like the description says,,, it goes so well with the clean-tasting lamb skewers.

A spoonful of fluffy fried rice

And the fluffy fried rice, what is there even to say. Having the okmyeon broth with the fried rice is a great combo too. I vote yes for this combination -

Jumbo skewers look small but fill you up

Meaty Yangbokjeom jumbo skewer

Honestly, when they first came out I thought the portion was small, but each skewer has so much meat that I was pretty full by the end.

A spoonful of okmyeon broth

When it got a bit greasy, I had a spoonful of the okmyeon broth,

and I also put lamb on top of the fried rice. However you eat it, it's so good ෆ

Final verdict on Yangbokjeom Dongdaegu Station Branch

Yangbokjeom Dongdaegu Station Branch is a lamb skewer spot near Dongdaegu Station that satisfied us even with just Coke Zero and Sprite Zero instead of alcohol. The only regret was not being able to drink beer because we had come by car.

It would have been even better with beer, but sadly today we cheered with cola and Sprite. We came looking for a good lamb skewer place near Dongdaegu Station and were very happy with the delicious skewers. If you're looking for lamb skewers in Dongdaegu, try Yangbokjeom Dongdaegu Station Branch!
