Daegu barbecue restaurant lunch with a 4-year-old and a baby: Modak

First day of daycare break: lunch at Modak Texas Barbecue, across from Shinsegae

Modak Texas Barbecue Dongdaegu Branch is a barbecue restaurant right across from Shinsegae Department Store in Daegu. My 4-year-old princess's daycare break has started.. (somebody save me..) and on the first day, we met up with her favorite auntie (my friend) and her 100-day-old baby. We met at Shinsegae Department Store, then headed straight across to this Dongdaegu Station favorite, Modak Texas Barbecue~~

Is Modak Texas Barbecue Dongdaegu Branch okay with a baby?

Modak Texas Barbecue Dongdaegu Branch has lots of tables, comfy chairs and even high chairs, so it's perfect for coming with kids and babies. I'd been to the Palgongsan branch but this was my first time at the Dongdaegu Station one.. It totally feels like a real local restaurant in Texas..!

Menu and ordering: kiosks, lunch special, set menus

Every table has a kiosk, so ordering is easy haha. As the name says, the barbecue platter is the main thing, but there's pasta and risotto too.. (but wait, what's that lobster over there.. I want that too..) The lunch special comes with a discount, and the 2-person and 3-person set menus are well put together, so I agonized over what to eat about a gazillion times..

Since it was two adults and one toddler, we ordered the 2-person Texas platter set, which includes barbecue, salad, fries, tortillas and more, plus the shrimp cream pasta. (You can even choose the pasta's spice level, which is the best..)

Nachos and stew as a starter

Nachos and stew came out first as a kind of appetizer, and the stew, which they apparently simmer for a long time themselves, was seriously delicious.. it totally woke up my appetite.. hehe..

A kid-friendly touch: the marshmallow zone

Modak Texas Barbecue Dongdaegu Branch has a marshmallow zone where kids can roast marshmallows. And I didn't even get to touch the stew before running off to roast marshmallows.. It's a truly kid-friendly place, since it has a marshmallow zone like this haha. My daughter somehow spotted it and sang on and on about wanting marshmallows.. It was my first time roasting them so I was clumsy, but I toasted them gently and they all went into my daughter's mouth.. lol

What's in the 2-person Texas platter?

Modak's 2-person Texas platter comes with barbecue meat, buffalo wings, bread, tortillas and 3 kinds of sauce. Kyaa.. while we were roasting marshmallows and playing, the main dish arrived before we knew it.. Isn't it hearty, and the lineup totally solid? Honestly, this is just a winning, delicious combo..

Is the shrimp cream pasta good too?

Modak Texas Barbecue Dongdaegu Branch is a barbecue place, but it's also a pasta place (?) It beats most of the Western-food spots in Daegu.. The thick, rich shrimp cream pasta, loaded with ingredients and sauce, was sooo good.. oink oink..

Snap of the tasty spread.. hehe.. the look of it is insane.. The restaurants inside Shinsegae are all pretty much the same, and there are plenty of places near Dongdaegu Station but it's hard to find a good meal, brunch or lunch spot, so just come to Modak Texas Barbecue.. haha

Did the 4-year-old eat well too?

My 4-year-old wrapped Modak's barbecue in tortillas and ate a whole lot. My princess's chopsticks never stopped.. Kids really love it too. She said it was delicious and ate so well, and in the end she kept wrapping barbecue in tortillas and munching away.. haha.. (a meat lover like her mom.. haha)

Stuffing tortillas with meat, coleslaw and fries

I inhaled it too.. hehe.. Meat, a generous heap of coleslaw and even fries in a tortilla, dipped in sauce, is pure heaven.. My friend and I, worn out from parenting, said this tasty food was a small but certain happiness and so healing.. haha

Free refills on sides

At Modak Texas Barbecue Dongdaegu Branch, sides like tortillas and coleslaw are free to refill.. We got two more rounds of tortillas.. oink oink..

Huh.. out of nowhere, indulging myself with photos of my friend's baby, just past 100 days.. so, so good haha. The baby smell is so nice I buried my nose in.. so so so cute ㅠㅠ Baby, let's come eat barbecue together when you're a little bigger.. haha

Verdict: lunch, daytime beer or a date near Dongdaegu Station

Khaa.. we ate really well and hard.. A truly delicious meal out after so long is precious ㅠㅠ But for us moms who'd love to come without kids and knock back a dark beer.. hehe.. It's great for a daytime beer and perfect for brunch, lunch, a company dinner or a date course too, Modak Texas Barbecue!
