Want a taste of real Japan while in Daegu? How about Naiba Hutto in Gyodong? Gyodong has become one of Daegu's hottest spots lately, with new restaurants and bars popping up all the time, and Naiba Hutto is the one people keep raving about, because you get the feel of a Japanese neighborhood pub without taking a trip to Japan. 🇯🇵 If you're looking for a drinking spot in Gyodong, a good date-night place, or just some Japanese vibes, read to the end! ✨
Where is Naiba Hutto and what's the first impression?
Naiba Hutto is at 634 Gukchaebosang-ro, 1st floor, Jung-gu, Daegu, in a Gyodong alley, and the red lanterns and Japanese signboard make it easy to spot from far away. It felt like stepping into a tiny izakaya in a Shinjuku side street in Tokyo or a back alley in Osaka.
The mood starts right at the entrance, so I couldn't not take photos. 📸 At night especially, the soft lighting and red lanterns glow even more, finishing off that Gyodong drinking-spot atmosphere. That atmosphere is exactly why I'd recommend it as a Gyodong date course in Daegu.

Does the interior really feel like Japan?
Step inside and the first thing you see is the long counter (dacchi-seok, bar-table seating) running around the kitchen. The layout recreates the late-night diner feel from Japanese dramas and movies.
Interior highlights
- Japanese-style noren (fabric curtain)
- Vintage Japanese posters
- Handwritten menu
- Warm orange lighting
- Cozy counter seats
- Lots of Japanese knick-knacks
The walls full of Japanese trinkets and retro posters were great for photos. There are coat hangers here and there so you can hang up your coat easily, which is a really thoughtful touch! 👍 The mood works for drinking solo, with friends or with a partner.

What's in the signature 5-skewer yakitori lineup?
The yakitori (Japanese grilled skewers) comes in 5 kinds: negima, chicken skewer, heart skewer, skin skewer and special-cut skewer. Each is grilled over charcoal after you order, so the smoky aroma is a real draw. It's a must at any izakaya. You can watch the staff grill them with care right in front of you, so even the wait was fun.
- 🔥 Negima (chicken thigh and leek)
- 🔥 Chicken skewer
- 🔥 Heart skewer
- 🔥 Skin skewer
- 🔥 Special-cut skewer
With this variety you get to try lots of flavors. The negima especially was fantastic, with juicy chicken thigh meeting the sweetness of the leek. Biting in, the juices and charcoal aroma filled my mouth, which was really memorable. A little real wasabi on the side keeps it clean, not greasy.
🍺 Beer, 🥃 highball, 🍶 sake: it's a top-notch snack that goes with any of them.

How does the mixed oden broth taste?
The mixed oden (fish cake stew) arrives in a big bowl generously packed with Japanese-style fish cakes, radish, egg, fried tofu pouches and crown daisy, and the broth was deep and clean, with strong katsuobushi (bonito) aroma and savory soy sauce. Oden is what you crave on cold days and whenever you're drinking, and the look of it alone was overwhelming.
- 🥚 Egg soaked in broth
- 🍢 Springy fish cakes
- 🥬 Fragrant crown daisy
- 🧡 Soft fried tofu pouch
Everything fit together perfectly. Sipping the broth between drinks settled my stomach, which made it even better.

Is the side dish, potato salad, worth ordering?
The potato salad I ordered as a side was a dark horse, much better than I expected. A neat mound of potato salad came topped with crispy onion flakes and plenty of chopped scallion.
The contrast between soft potato and crunchy flakes was lovely. It was nutty with just the right saltiness, perfect for cleansing the palate between yakitori and oden. It also works surprisingly well as a drinking snack, and I emptied it in no time. 😆

Is it a good highball spot in Gyodong, Daegu?
If you're looking for somewhere to drink highballs in Gyodong, Daegu, do stop by Naiba Hutto. A cold highball with charcoal-smoky yakitori is a combination that can't fail.
Chatting over a highball under the soft lighting, I lost track of time. It would work well for a date and for a get-together with friends.
Where are the best photo spots in Naiba Hutto?
In front of the red lanterns, at the counter seats, by the open kitchen: wherever you shoot, it feels like you're on a trip to Japan. These days the atmosphere matters as much as the food, right?
- 📍 In front of the red lanterns
- 📍 Counter seats
- 📍 Open kitchen
- 📍 Japanese poster wall
- 📍 The yakitori grilling scene
It was a great place for getting that perfect shot, and a perfect Gyodong hot spot for photos to post on social media.

Verdict: who is Naiba Hutto for?
If you're looking for a bar with a great atmosphere in Gyodong, Daegu, Naiba Hutto is a really satisfying choice. A space that properly recreates a Japanese izakaya, tasty snacks and highballs: all three boxes ticked.
