With Halloween decorations and a free fire pit zone, Modak Texas Barbecue Palgongsan Branch made a satisfying lunch stop on a Palgongsan drive.

On a Sunday the writer and her husband arrived at 11:30 for opening time and ate the summer yeolmu bibimbap (young radish kimchi bibimbap, from ₩7,900), the bulgogi yeolmu bibimbap and the fire-grilled bulgogi set while watching the kitchen's fire show. The tangy yeolmu bibimbap at Cafe Dongyi Branch 1 was a satisfying meal before a Suseongmot date, and her husband wants to come back every summer.

Korean BBQ buffet with cash discount in Chilgok, Daegu: Ganeun Galbi

Ganeun Galbi Taejeon-jeom (간큰갈비 태전점) is a charcoal-grilled, all-you-can-eat Korean BBQ restaurant in Taejeon-dong, Buk-gu, Daegu, in the Chilgok area. After work, the writer took Daegu Metro Line 3, the elevated line, to Ganeun Galbi Taejeon-jeom. There the writer ordered the all-you-can-eat pork galbi, pork belly and makchang (grilled beef intestine) set for two, drank somaek (soju mixed with beer) and finished with ramyeon and ice cream. Verdict: the Korean pork belly and marinated pork galbi at Ganeun Galbi Taejeon-jeom are good enough to break the usual all-you-can-eat stereotype.

On a Saturday evening the writer ordered raw pork belly, jjondeuk-sal (a chewy special cut) and lean-meat gukbap at Don Gukbap, and the pork order came with a free spicy collagen trotter soup plus unlimited refills of tteokbokki, liver, heart and lung. For a good-value drinking night, Don Gukbap's ₩5,000-per-serving Korean pork belly and free refills are the answer.

Banwoldang tuna restaurant: grilled tuna head with Mom, Jongno Darang

Jongno Darang is a bluefin tuna sashimi restaurant in Jongno, Jung-gu, Daegu, between Banwoldang Station and Jungangno Station. The writer and Mom, a tuna sashimi lover, arrived for the 3pm opening and ordered the ₩50,000-per-person bluefin course for two: salad, chawanmushi, herring roe tofu, abalone, yakisoba, ankimo maki (monkfish liver roll), bluefin sashimi, grilled tuna head, fried anago (sea eel) and seafood ramyeon. The Jongno Darang bluefin course is filling enough for a grown man, and Mom liked it so much she wants to come back for the halibut course.

Geumdeungeo Dalseo Branch is a good fit when you want a relaxed grilled fish meal with your parents.
