Renamed pork galbi restaurant in Jongno, Daegu: Jangjak Saenggalbi

In short

Jangjak Saenggalbi Jongno Main Branch is a pork galbi (grilled ribs) restaurant tucked into a Jongno alley in Jung-gu, Daegu, and it is the same place that used to trade as Bakdol Saenggalbi Jongno Main Branch. The meal here was a half plate of fresh pork ribs and a half plate of marinated pork ribs, grilled at the table by staff and eaten with the house sauce, salt and wasabi, then finished with mul naengmyeon (cold noodle soup). Only the name changed at Jangjak Saenggalbi — the meat quality and service are the same, so it is still an easy recommendation in Jongno, Daegu.

I'm bringing you news of a restaurant that's been all the buzz among meat lovers in Jongno, Daegu. This place used to be loved as Bakdol Saenggalbi Jongno Main Branch, but it recently changed its name to Jangjak Saenggalbi Jongno Main Branch!

The name changed, but I heard the signature juicy flavor and quality stayed exactly the same (actually, even upgraded!), so I hurried over to check it out.

Where is Jangjak Saenggalbi Jongno Main Branch, and when is it open?

  • ⏱️ Daily 5:00 PM – 1:00 AM
  • 🚘 Nearby paid parking lots

Jangjak Saenggalbi Jongno Main Branch is close to both the subway station and bus stops, so accessibility is honestly top-notch. It sits inside the restaurant alley of Jongno, Daegu, so even first-timers should find it easily just by following a map. This place was already super popular back in its Bakdol Saenggalbi days, so I felt a wave of nostalgia seeing the sign and heading in.

The exterior already looked clean and upscale, which really built up my expectations before I even stepped inside~

Inside Jangjak Saenggalbi: seating for dates and group dinners

Jangjak Saenggalbi Jongno Main Branch spans the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd floors, so tables are spaced out generously. Walking in, the interior was clean and comfortable, and even though it's a BBQ place, there was no smoke haze or greasy residue — it was managed really hygienically. I could chat comfortably without worrying about the next table over!

It's great for a date with your partner, of course, but there are also solid group seating options, making it a fine choice for a company dinner or a family gathering.

The basic side dishes came out simple and tidy, but what really stood out to me was a side dish that looked like dried radish strips (?). And let me tell you… it went so perfectly with the fresh pork ribs that I fell head over heels for it -♡

What we ordered: fresh pork rib half plate and marinated pork rib half plate

Time to order. 🏷️ Fresh pork rib half plate / marinated pork rib half plate — I wanted to try both.

Small dishes of special sauce, salt, and wasabi

(Loved the owner's thoughtful touch of extras on the house) In particular, this place's own special sauce, salt, and wasabi came out together, letting you enjoy the meat's natural flavor in a variety of ways — I really liked that consideration. Every single side dish was clean and refined rather than heavy on seasoning, so my hand honestly kept reaching for them even before the main meat arrived…

How does the fresh pork galbi taste? Juicy and tender

Finally, the main event I'd been waiting for — the fresh pork ribs arrived! The moment I saw the meat's vivid pale-pink marbling, I thought, "Yep, this is the fresh rib spot Jongno, Daegu is known for." You could tell just by looking that the meat quality was genuinely fresh.

They grilled the meat golden-brown on the hot grill, and the savory, meaty aroma filled the air — waiting was blissful, but also made me impatient to eat it already..

I tried a well-grilled piece of fresh rib plain first, without dipping it in anything, and the moment it hit my mouth, the juices burst out along with a tender, melt-in-your-mouth texture that was pure art~ It's delicious dipped in the special sauce too, and wrapped in a lettuce leaf with fresh vegetables, there's zero greasiness — you just keep eating endlessly. The moment I took that first bite, I completely understood why this place keeps coming up as a top pork rib / fresh rib restaurant in Jongno, Daegu👍🏻

Mul naengmyeon ordered to finish the meal

Finishing the meal with mul naengmyeon (cold noodle soup)

After thoroughly enjoying the meat, I wrapped up with a proper side dish too — nothing pairs with galbi like mul naengmyeon! The spicy, deep broth let me finish the meal on a clean note all the way to the end👏🏻

Does it still taste the same after the Bakdol Saenggalbi name change?

If you were worried that the taste or service might have changed since the name switched from Bakdol Saenggalbi to Jangjak Saenggalbi Jongno Main Branch, you really don't need to worry at all!!! The outstanding meat quality, the kind and attentive staff service, and the clean restaurant environment — everything was still just as satisfying as before.

If you're looking for a Jongno, Daegu BBQ restaurant for a day when you want great meat and a good meal, I'd strongly recommend stopping by Jangjak Saenggalbi Jongno Main Branch without a second thought🔥
