Korean restaurant in Suseong, Daegu: grilled pork and cockle salad

At Geumdeungeo Deulanguil Main Branch (금등어 들안길 본점) on Deulangil in Suseong-gu, I had charcoal-grilled spicy pork stir-fry and generous seasoned cockle salad. Although oven-baked mackerel is presented as the signature dish, this time we ordered and shared two other Korean dishes.

The restaurant is on the second floor at 57 Deulan-ro, Suseong-gu, Daegu. I found the dedicated tower parking convenient. The hours posted during my visit were 11:00 AM to 9:20 PM, with a break from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM.

Which dishes did we order together?

The menu included Korean dishes such as grilled mackerel, spicy pork stir-fry, and seasoned cockle salad. We chose the charcoal-grilled spicy pork stir-fry and generous seasoned cockle salad. Having both dishes together let us alternate between their different seasonings and textures.

What is the atmosphere like for a family meal?

The interior was more spacious than I expected, with generously spaced tables. It was neatly arranged, so the dining area did not feel cramped. I saw many family groups, and felt it would be a good place to eat with parents as well.

How are the side dishes and stew served?

A variety of side dishes were set out, along with doenjang-jjigae (soybean paste stew). I tried the side dishes one by one while waiting for the mains. It was convenient to take only the extra side dishes I wanted from the self-service bar.

Is the charcoal-grilled spicy pork stir-fry very spicy or intense?

The spicy pork stir-fry had a gentle smoky aroma characteristic of direct grilling. To my taste, it was not overly spicy or sweet, leaning instead toward a mildly sweet, savory seasoning with umami. The meat was well coated in sauce and went nicely with warm rice.

How does the seasoned cockle salad go with the spicy pork?

The generous seasoned cockle salad had plenty of cockles, with a chewy texture and a tangy, savory sauce. It was good to have between bites of the smoky spicy pork. Putting it over warm rice or alternating it with the pork made each dish stand out more clearly.

What dessert did we have after the meal?

For dessert, I drank sweet, chilled sikhye (sweet rice drink). After a filling Korean meal, it made my mouth feel refreshed. Drinks and coffee were also available besides sikhye.

This time, I was satisfied with sharing the spicy pork stir-fry and seasoned cockle salad together. I thought it would suit a family meal where everyone wants to share several Korean dishes in spacious seating. I did not try the oven-baked mackerel this time, but I would like to order it on a future visit.
