Gwangalli pot rice with steak, eel and yurinki for two: Solsot

In short

Solsot Gwangalli is a Korean pot rice (solbap) restaurant in Suyeong, Busan, serving steak, freshwater eel, abalone and salmon versions. Two diners ordered steak pot rice for 17,900 won, freshwater eel pot rice for 25,900 won and a side of yurinki (crispy fried chicken in tangy sauce) for 8,500 won, eating the eel with perilla leaf, wasabi and broth and finishing with nurungji sungnyung (scorched rice tea). Solsot Gwangalli is a good pick when you want a hearty Korean meal in Gwangalli instead of raw fish or grilled meat, but expect a wait at peak meal times.

Was in Busan and trying to figure out what to eat in Gwangalli, so I ended up at Solsot Gwangalli, a Gwangalli restaurant I'd heard good things about ( ´͈ ᵕ `͈ )◞♡ They serve all kinds of pot rice — steak, eel, abalone, salmon, you name it. We went all out this time and ordered steak pot rice + eel pot rice + yurinki haha. If you like pot rice, this place is great for a hearty meal in Gwangalli, so let me walk you through it 🤍

Is Solsot Gwangalli easy to find from the street?

Solsot Gwangalli is at 78 Gwangnam-ro, 1st floor, Suyeong-gu, Busan, and the bright red sign catches your eye from far away. The exterior is clean and tidy too, so it wasn't hard to find at all.

Menu photo board placed outside the restaurant

There's a menu board out front with photos of each pot rice, so you can browse and decide what to get before even walking in ૮ . ̫ . ა If you want something clean and filling that isn't meat or raw fish, this Gwangalli pot rice spot is a good call.

Inside Solsot Gwangalli: atmosphere and seating

Inside, Solsot Gwangalli has a wood-toned interior that felt clean and calm overall. There were quite a few tables, but when we visited it was seriously packed !! You can probably tell from the photos alone that it was nearly full ,,haha

Couples on dates, families — all kinds of people were eating there. ̫ . Since pot rice isn't a polarizing dish, it also seemed like a good spot to bring parents 😊🤎

Is there a wait at Solsot Gwangalli?

True to its reputation as a popular Gwangalli restaurant, there was a wait when we visited ㅠㅠ The place doesn't have a small number of tables, but during meal time it was nearly packed anyway 🥺

Since pot rice takes time to cook after ordering, I'd recommend visiting with some buffer on weekends or during lunch/dinner peak hours !! If you hate waiting, go a bit before meal time or make a reservation!

Solsot really has a wide range of pot rice — meat, fish, seafood, so there's plenty to choose from depending on your taste 💛 For sides, they also have cheese pork cutlet, house-made fried shrimp, and yurinki.

What two of us ordered at Solsot Gwangalli

The full pot rice spread we ordered

We ordered steak pot rice, eel pot rice, and yurinki !!

Steak pot rice, eel pot rice and yurinki table setting

A combo that works for both meat lovers and eel lovers, plus a side on top — decided to go all in and eat properly أ‿أ

Freshwater eel pot rice, 25,900 won: perilla leaf, wasabi and broth

Solsot Gwangalli's eel pot rice is 25,900 won, and it was the dish I was most looking forward to.

Eel pot rice topped with eel

Glossy eel piled generously on top of the pot rice — the visual alone was insane ..🖤 They say the eel is sourced directly and grilled, steamed, then grilled again to bring out a deep flavor !

Thick eel flesh coated in sauce

The eel's surface was properly coated in sweet-salty sauce, and the flesh was thick, so it was easy to scoop up a big bite ( *¯ ³¯*)♡ Delicious on its own, but eating it together with the rice in one big bite is the best ,,

A bite of eel scooped up with rice

The eel itself was soft, not chewy at all, and the sweet-salty sauce went so well with the rice that I couldn't stop reaching for more 🤤

Eel pot rice being served into a bowl

After eating some of it as-is, following the tip for the best way to enjoy it, I added perilla leaf and wasabi and poured in the broth that came with it !

Eel rice with perilla leaf, wasabi and broth poured in

Wow, this combo was also delicious ㅠㅠ The perilla leaf's aroma cut through the eel's richness completely, and adding wasabi made it even cleaner ʕ´•ᴥ•`ʔσ Then pouring in the warm broth made the rice soft and moist while the sweet-salty eel sauce melded in — a totally different feeling from the first bite ,,🖤

Eel pot rice softened with broth

As plain pot rice it was savory and rich, but with broth poured in it turned softer and cleaner, perfect for finishing the dish haha. Loved being able to enjoy one dish in two completely different ways, and if you like eel, I'd definitely recommend this one !! 🖤

Steak pot rice, 17,900 won: how much beef and what comes with it

Solsot Gwangalli's steak pot rice is 17,900 won. After a short wait, the steak pot rice came out as a neat, generous spread ˁ̡̡̡∗⁎⃙ ̫⁎⃙ˀ̡̡̡ ̩˳♡⃝

Neatly plated steak pot rice spread
Side dishes including kimchi, soup and salad
Steak pot rice with side dishes

It's not just the pot rice alone — it comes with kimchi, soup, salad, and various side dishes, so the setup was pretty substantial. And they had everything ready separately so we could make sungnyung (scorched rice tea) at the end. Main dish to finish — all covered in one go ,,🤍

They say the steak pot rice uses a premium cut of beef with good marbling and aroma, cooked at high heat for a short time to bring out the full appeal of quality beef !

The moment the lid came off, big chunks of steak filled the pot — the visual alone was mouthwatering (,,• •,,)♥ Glossy meat topped generously with green onion and sesame seeds — the kind of visual that makes you want to dig in right away ,,🤤

There's rice underneath the meat, and with green onion and sesame seeds piled on top, you just mix it all together.

A bite of steak pot rice topped with green onion and sesame seeds

I piled a big piece of steak on top and took a bite — the meat was tender with real beefy aroma ,,🤤 Being pot rice, the rice itself was warm and fluffy, and as the meat's juices and sauce soaked into it, the savory flavor really came alive. The portion of meat was also more generous than expected, so I could top a piece of steak onto every single bite !!!! If you love meat and it's your first time at Solsot, I'd say start with the steak pot rice.

Finishing with nurungji sungnyung (scorched rice tea)

The best part of pot rice has to be the sungnyung at the end, right ,,ㅎ꒰˵•꘍•˵꒱ After eating some of the pot rice, you add the nurungji (scorched rice) powder and pour in the broth that comes with it.

Pot with nurungji powder and broth poured in

Pour in the hot broth, wait a bit, and the rice grains soften into a nutty, savory sungnyung !!

Finished nutty sungnyung

Even after eating pot rice until full, this still went down easy ㅋㅋㅋ Warm and nutty, it was the perfect finishing touch ◡̈

Side dish: yurinki (crispy fried chicken), 8,500 won

Solsot Gwangalli's yurinki is 8,500 won. Pot rice alone felt like it wasn't quite enough, so we added yurinki as a side.

A plate of yurinki ordered as a side

They say Solsot's yurinki uses carefully selected chicken, fried crispy, then finished with house-made sauce and cheongyang chili pepper !

Crispy yurinki topped with sauce and cheongyang chili

Crispy fried chicken piled generously with sauce and cheongyang chili on top — total beer-snack vibes from the visual alone ,,🍺 Took a bite and the outside was crispy while the chicken inside stayed juicy, great texture ʘ̥_ʘ Especially with the tangy-sweet, salty house sauce and a bit of spicy kick from the cheongyang chili, it wasn't greasy at all and I kept reaching for more 🤤 Perfect for picking at between bites of pot rice !! If there are two or more of you, I'd recommend ordering one pot rice each and sharing a yurinki as a side ◡̈

Is Solsot Gwangalli worth it? Final verdict

Final shot of the full pot rice meal spread

Visited Solsot Gwangalli wanting a hearty meal in Gwangalli !! With so many pot rice options, it was easy to pick according to taste, and I liked how the main dish came with a full, neat spread of sides o(≧∇≦o)

The steak pot rice especially had generous chunks of meat, so I'd recommend it to anyone who loves meat, and the eel pot rice's sweet eel-and-rice combo was on point — personally really satisfying 🤤 Add the crispy yurinki on top and the two of us walked out having eaten a properly hearty meal !! Getting to finish with warm sungnyung made the ending perfect too haha

If you're in Gwangalli, Busan, craving clean Korean food or pot rice instead of raw fish or grilled meat, and looking for somewhere for a date or family meal, this place is worth a visit ◡̈ There may be a wait, so I'd recommend visiting with some buffer on weekends or during meal times !! Solsot Gwangalli is the kind of Gwangalli restaurant that'll come to mind when you want a solid, filling meal in Busan 🖤
