Daegu pub with reservation cards and free ice cream: Nampo, Gyodong

Today's post is about eating raw shrimp at Nampo, a hot pub in Gyodong, Daegu!!

Where is Nampo, and what are its hours and parking?

Nampo is a shellfish and seafood pub located at 238 Gyeongsanggamyeong-gil, Jung-gu, Daegu, in Gyodong. Hours are Mon–Thu 18:00–02:00 and Fri–Sun 17:00–02:00, and you can park behind the restaurant or use a nearby public parking lot.

• ⭐️ Side dishes — Dried seafood tower, pork belly bulgogi, scallop risotto, minari (water dropwort) and shrimp pancake, hangover abalone porridge, round cream ongsimi (rice dumpling soup), kimchi hand-torn dough soup, crispy fried squid

Why is the menu so huge,, did they catch the entire ocean,, Today we ordered the raw shrimp that's in season and running wild right now haha

The outdoor tables have a stone-lined grill built in!! Looks like this is what you cook grilled shellfish on if you order that — we decided to come back for grilled shellfish once it gets chillier!!

Standard side dishes: pork cutlet, macaroni salad and shabu-shabu

Nampo serves pork cutlet and macaroni mayonnaise salad as standard side dishes. The crispy fried cutlet is topped with a sweet sauce and onions, making it a perfect drinking snack!! The macaroni salad is nutty and soft too, so your hand just keeps reaching for it haha

And then shabu-shabu we didn't even order shows up,,??? I said we didn't order this, and they said it's a standard side dish,, what is this place, Nampo is a real hidden gem in Gyodong that just hands out shabu-shabu as a free side dish, insane!! It came with a metal pot of shabu-shabu broth and a basket packed with fresh vegetables

With napa cabbage, bok choy, mushrooms and more vegetables plus fish cake, fried tofu, clams and other ingredients, it was varied enough to pass as a main dish. Great for warming your stomach with a hot broth while sipping a drink!!

Adding ingredients and simmering them while waiting for our order was fun in itself haha

How the raw shrimp sashimi is served at Nampo

The main dish, raw shrimp sashimi, arrived. It took a bit of time, probably because they peeled each shrimp individually right after ordering. A two-tiered plate packed with ice held a generous portion of raw shrimp, prepped for easy eating. The second tier had side items to pair with the shrimp — wasabi, pickled radish, pickled ginger, radish sprouts.

Squeeze a bit of the lemon that came with it and dip the shrimp in soy sauce or vinegar-chili sauce, and you get the shrimp's natural sweetness and springy texture in full!!

We kept marveling at the chewy texture, just repeating that it was delicious,, hahaha. Since it sits on ice, you can enjoy it fresh and cool down to the last piece, which was great

The raw shrimp were still moving,,!! When the camera's not around they were really flopping around, but the moment you point a camera at them they go still,, unwritten rule of raw shrimp,,???!!!

Nampo collects the shrimp heads and fries them

The shrimp heads that came with the raw shrimp — trim them, gather them on the plate, hand them to staff, and they fry them up like this! You know this is a crazy-good delicacy, right,,?? The golden-fried shrimp heads come piled with a nutty tartar-ish sauce. Looks like a calorie bomb just looking at it, but you can't stop your hand from reaching over,, freshly fried, super crispy and nutty. Eaten with the sauce it's salty yet soft, absolutely excellent!!

We cleared the raw shrimp completely!!

Free soft-serve ice cream after you pay the bill

Nampo gives you a soft-serve ice cream on the way out after you pay. Served in a cute little cup, small as it is, the flavor is anything but light. It's got a dense, steamed-milk ice cream feel haha. I thought this place was only good at seafood, but they're good at ice cream too,,

Ending on soft, sweet ice cream leaves your mouth feeling clean and refreshed. Getting to feel Nampo's warm hospitality all the way to the end made me happy

Is Nampo in Gyodong worth it? Final verdict

'Nampo,' a pub in Gyodong, Daegu, satisfies on every front — atmosphere, taste, and service!! From the generous standard side dishes to fresh raw shrimp sashimi, nutty fried shrimp heads and sweet dessert, it really felt like a complete course meal. If you're looking for a pub in Gyodong with a great vibe and great food, recommend Nampo without hesitation!! It's the perfect season for outdoor drinking right now, so I'm planning to visit again before it gets too cold haha.
