Pyoseon, Jeju café for patbingsu after an evening run: Café 7 Budu

In short

Café 7 Budu (표선카페 7부두) is a harbor-themed dessert café on Pyoseondangpo-ro in Pyoseon-myeon, Seogwipo, Jeju. After an evening run at Pyoseon Beach, three friends shared Café 7 Budu's clay-pot handmade patbingsu (red bean shaved ice, 17,000 won for two) and Oh! Eobu Ice Cream (7,000 won); the domestic red beans were not too sweet, and the milk ice was finely shaved. Open until 11 PM, with a Hallasan sunset and Pyoseon Port views, Café 7 Budu makes a great summer evening dessert stop.

First photo from the visit to Café 7 Budu

It's seriously hot these days, but I couldn't stand not working out either, so for the first time in a while I did a short evening run at Pyoseon Beach. Even at night I was drenched in sweat, and the ice cream and handmade patbingsu (red bean shaved ice) at this dessert café, 'Café 7 Budu' (표선카페 7부두), were like an oasis. Starting my honest review now ;)

Dock and harbor-themed interior with a staircase photo spot

Café 7 Budu entrance with fishing-village-style banners

The concept of Café 7 Budu is a dock, a harbor, haha. Right from the entrance there are banners with a fishing-village vibe, which was fun.

Dock-themed entrance decorations

It's decorated with nets, fish bowls and buoys, props that smell like the sea just from looking at them.

The owner welcomed us with so much energy, hahaha. Past the entrance there's an old-fashioned staircase, and it turns out to be the photo spot where lots of guests take souvenir shots. Especially if you book through Naver first, the owner takes photos of you for free!!! Sounds great for making precious memories with family, a partner or friends.

Lots of photos taken on the staircase hang all around the café. There are plenty of props too, so there's something to look at in every corner.

The first floor was crowded, so I couldn't get good photos, but there are plush sofa seats and a few tables good for chatting.

The window at the back of the first floor even shows the Hallasan sunset. What a view!!!

Go up the stairs and you reach the second floor, which has a slightly different mood from the first. Cozy wooden floors plus retro chairs. It's much bigger than the first floor, so it's good for groups too. You look down on Pyoseon Port, so the view is even prettier.

Café 7 Budu signature menu and prices

  • Oh! Eobu Ice Cream ₩7,000
  • Oh! Eobu Gateau ₩7,500
  • Budu Latte ₩7,000
  • Persimmon Smoothie "Wedding Day" ₩7,500
  • Apple Mango Smoothie ₩7,500

The signature menu names are really funny, lol. From coffee to lattes, ades, drinks, ice cream, and healthy teas like ssanghwa tea, jujube tea and ginger tea, there's a wide range of desserts. I was curious about the Budu Latte, and the persimmon smoothie "Wedding Day" has such a cute name that I wanted to try it, but it was hot today, so I picked the Eobu ice cream!!

And this is the main event: the 'clay-pot handmade patbingsu'!! They say it uses only 100% domestic red beans, cooked by the owner himself, and not too sweet. Shaved ice in a clay pot... just thinking about finishing the whole bowl cooled me down already. And it's for two people yet only ₩17,000, a great value.

Menu notice for the clay-pot handmade patbingsu

It's a café, but there's an alcohol menu too: beer, highballs and snacks. Since it's open until 11 PM, you can enjoy the Pyoseon sea late at night with a drink, which is nice.

Clay-pot handmade patbingsu: plenty even for three

The three of us ordered the clay-pot handmade patbingsu and an Oh! Eobu ice cream. You can tell at a glance that the portion is pretty big, wow.

Handmade patbingsu served in a clay pot
Clay-pot patbingsu topped with fruit and rice cake

The clay-pot patbingsu wins on looks alone, since it comes in a big gukbap (rice soup) bowl, lol. It's piled with a huge amount of handmade red bean, and topped with seasonal fruit like watermelon, Korean melon and banana. Corn, cornflakes and even rice cake on top: it's packed with all sorts of ingredients. It's a lot even for two people!!!

The red beans weren't sweet, so I wanted to just scoop up the beans alone, and underneath the milk ice is shaved very finely. On a hot summer day like this it was a real treat.

Seasonal fruit such as Korean melon and watermelon on the patbingsu

The fruit, like Korean melon and watermelon, was sweet and tasty even on its own. You could feel that the fruit was carefully chosen. They also give condensed milk on the side, so you can adjust the sweetness.

Oh! Eobu Ice Cream made with squid ink

The Oh! Eobu ice cream was a vanilla ice cream made with squid ink, no less. The color is close to black and it's chewy; it doesn't taste exactly like plain vanilla, but it's really smooth :) At the first bite, "mm, delicious" just came out on its own!! It's a taste anyone can enjoy without hesitation, no divided opinions :) Totally recommended!!

The owner is so lively, the view is great and the food was good: 'Café 7 Budu', a Pyoseon dessert hotspot. There are lots of restaurants nearby, so I recommend having a meal and then dropping by for a bite of cool shaved ice!!
