Gyeongju mochi shop: 3pm sellout, persimmon and fig yogurt, Tareudang

I hear Hanjeongseon is so trendy these days! I've wanted to try it too, but I live in Ulsan so ㅜㅜ. While out in Gyeongju I found something similar — went straight in to try it haha

What Tareudang looks like in Hwangnidang-gil: a dessert shop styled like a gift shop

When I got to the shop, the exterior had such a cute, detailed feel right away haha. It's in Hwangnidang-gil in Gyeongju and looks so much like a little knick-knack shop that at first I genuinely wasn't sure it was a dessert place! It was decorated so charmingly that it was fun just to look around while sightseeing in Gyeongju, and it felt cute for photos too 📸 It fits the emotional vibe of Hwangnidang-gil so well that it's worth stopping by just to look around during a Gyeongju trip, not only for the desserts haha

Arriving at 3pm: Tareudang's first sales round already sold out

I got there around 3pm and unfortunately the first sales round was already sold out 🥲 So I decided to wait until the second round opened. I haven't been to Hanjeongseon, but... this place was way more popular than I expected lol. Even on a weekday there were people waiting!

Tareudang also sells egg tarts, not just fruit mochi

Looking at the menu, there were more options than I'd expected. I thought this was a mochi-only shop, but they also sell egg tarts! They looked pretty tasty in photos too, so I wanted to try one on my next visit haha

While I was browsing the menu and waiting, the second round of sales time snuck up on me!

The waiting line... If you're going on a public holiday or weekend, I really recommend going early!!!ㅜ

Mango and peach gone in round two as well, so persimmon and fig it was

What I really wanted was mango and peach yogurt, but sadly those were already sold out by the second round too 🥹 After some deliberating, I ended up picking two: persimmon yogurt and fig yogurt!

I took them home, and even packaged with one mochi per piece, it was just so cute haha. Tareudang in Gyeongju!! Time to taste them!

What the persimmon yogurt mochi tastes like

First, the persimmon yogurt mochi I picked 🍊 Inside the chewy mochi is cream and persimmon, and it was softer and sweeter than I expected. You could taste the chewy texture unique to persimmon, and with the yogurt cream mixed in, it felt lighter than just eating plain persimmon.

What the fig yogurt mochi tastes like

And then the fig yogurt mochi! I figured with fig inside it would taste somewhat plain, but it was sweeter than expected and delicious haha. There was also that little popping crunch of fig seeds, which I personally really liked! My mom tried it too and said it was tasty, so the reaction was good overall ☺️

When is the best time to visit Tareudang?

Still, it was a bit disappointing that I didn't get to try the mango and peach yogurt I originally wanted ㅜㅜ If I end up in Gyeongju again, I definitely want to go a bit earlier and get the flavor I actually want! Especially since popular flavors can sell out fast, I'd recommend going right at opening time if there's a specific menu item you want. If you're looking for a dessert that's not so common in Gyeongju, or you love the fruit mochi trend right now, it's worth stopping by at least once 💗 Next time I'm going for the mango and peach yogurt haha
