Namdaemun Market peanut bread shop even non-peanut fans love: Daesin

Daesin Ttangkong-ppang Namdaemun Market branch (대신땅콩빵) is a snack shop selling peanut bread and egg bread inside Namdaemun Market in Jung-gu, Seoul. The writer stopped by while browsing the market and bought 45 peanut breads for ₩6,000 and 2 egg breads for ₩4,000; both the writer's peanut-loving husband and the writer, who isn't much of a peanut fan, enjoyed the light, cracker-crisp peanut bread. For a snack on the spot or a takeaway treat in Namdaemun Market, Daesin Ttangkong-ppang is a safe choice.

Ikseon-dong bakery, weekday visit: chewy rice chestnut loaf, Munhwa

Munhwa Bakery (문화제빵) is a small bakery on Donhwamun-ro in Ikseon-dong, Jongno, Seoul. After giving up on weekend queues, the writer visited Munhwa Bakery on a weekday afternoon and bought coffee bread (₩5,800), rice chestnut loaf (₩5,800) and walnut bread (₩3,500) to share with family; each had a different taste and texture, which made them fun to compare. If you pick just one at Munhwa Bakery, make it the chewy rice chestnut loaf.

Daegu Korean restaurant lunch with mom: jjukkumi & jeyuk, Cafe Dongi

Cafe Dongi Daemyeong Station Branch (카페동이 대명역점) is a café-style Korean set-meal restaurant in an alley near Seobu Bus Terminal in Daemyeong-dong, Nam-gu, Daegu. Over lunch with her mom, the writer had a single-brazier jeyuk (spicy pork) set for 12,900 won, a jjukkumi (webfoot octopus) stir-fry set for 16,900 won, jumbo fried shrimp and a bite-size kimchi pancake, plus the self-serve bar with extra fried eggs and multigrain rice. The jjukkumi portion was a little small, but with the self-serve bar and dessert, Cafe Dongi served a filling, home-style lunch.
