Gangneung makguksu restaurant open till 8:30pm with parking: Gossi's

In short

Gossi's Donghae Makguksu & Sundubu Kalguksu Main Branch is a makguksu (cold buckwheat noodle) restaurant spread over three floors right in front of Gangmun Beach in Gangneung. Gossi's covers 1 hour of parking at the public lot out front, stays open until 20:30, and pulls its house-made noodles fresh once you order — the perilla oil makguksu was the pick here. Turnover is quick so any wait moves fast, but the makguksu itself tasted more ordinary than expected.

Gossi's Donghae Makguksu, a mul-makguksu (cold buckwheat noodle in broth) specialist right at Gangmun Beach ✈️ It's one of those Gangmun Beach favorites with long weekend waits — let's go through it step by step 👀✨

Where is Gossi's Donghae Makguksu at Gangmun Beach?

Gossi's sits right in front of Gangmun Beach and is the biggest place along the beachfront. It spans from the 1st to the 3rd floor, so it's already hard to miss, and the big 'Donghae Makguksu' sign visible from the road makes it easy to spot.

Parking at Gossi's: 1 hour covered at the public lot

Gossi's has no dedicated parking lot. But there's a public parking lot right in front where you can get 1 hour covered. If you park at a public lot in a different direction rather than the one directly in front, the parking benefit won't apply! Make sure to ask staff to register your parking after you pay.

Gossi's menu and how the order slip payment works

It's a makguksu specialist, but the menu goes beyond noodles — there's jjamppong sundubu (spicy seafood tofu stew) and even gimbap (seaweed rice roll) made with buckwheat noodles. Set menus are available too. When paying, you must bring your order slip down with you — otherwise you'll have to go back up to get it.

Seating on floors 1, 2 and 3, and the Gangmun Beach ocean view

You can sit and eat on the 1st floor, but most seating is on the 2nd floor. There's a 3rd floor too, but I've never actually been up there!

How do the house-made perilla oil, mul and bibim makguksu taste?

Gossi's makes its noodles in-house, pulling fresh noodles right after you order. Makguksu comes out within 20 minutes at the latest. There are lots of makguksu varieties to choose from, and if you're with kids who might be put off by buckwheat, gimbap is a good alternative order.

The perilla oil makguksu I ordered! The perilla oil scent isn't overpowering, so it's an easy dish for beginners to try. The perilla oil is organic, cold-pressed, and made with only domestic ingredients, which apparently makes it great for vegans too. They pour the broth from a kettle, so you can add more if you want a saltier, stronger flavor.

The mul-makguksu has broth poured over buckwheat noodles. It comes with a thin layer of ice, so it's refreshing on a hot day. The bibim-makguksu comes with Gossi's own recipe of fermented pollock (myeongtae-sikhae), which adds a nice pollock texture with no bones to worry about. If you're visiting with babies, I'd recommend ordering gimbap.

What was good and what fell short at Gossi's

The makguksu itself tasted more ordinary than I expected, which was a bit of a letdown. On the plus side, turnover is much faster than other restaurants near Gangmun Beach, so customers cycle in and out quickly and you can eat fast. It's also great that it stays open late, so you can still get makguksu in the evening.

Next time I visit, I want to try the pine nut makguksu! Something about that rich pine nut flavor sounds really appealing!!
