Taco restaurant for solo dining in Soje-dong, Daejeon: Horse Taco Soje
In short
Horse Taco Soje is a Mexican taco restaurant in an alley in Soje-dong near Daejeon Station, and its bar table makes solo dining easy. Dining alone, the writer ordered 2 birria tacos, a camarón (shrimp) taco and the Horse Snack, ranking the Horse Snack first, the camarón taco second and the birria tacos third. For a meal in Daejeon that isn't duruchigi (spicy stir-fried pork) or gukbap (rice soup), Horse Taco Soje is a good choice.

A Euljiro-style taco spot in Soje-dong, Daejeon?
Horse Taco Soje is a taco restaurant in the Soje-dong alleys near Daejeon Station. Soje-dong is a neighborhood I really love because it still has that old-school charm in every alley — kind of like Daejeon's version of Euljiro. And here's another parallel... you know how there's a famous taco spot in Euljiro? Well, Soje-dong has one too haha

I actually saved Horse Taco a long time ago after seeing it on reels, but I think I always figured — when I come to Daejeon I just eat bread, why would I bother with Mexican food...? Today I'm going to smash that thought.

Even the lettering looks like hot sauce to me now. At Horse Taco you can freely enjoy tacos along with soda, beer, and tequila.

Horse Taco Soje hours and parking
Horse Taco Soje is open Tue-Sun 11:30-20:00, closed Mondays. No break time! For parking, you can use the streamside parking lot in front of the restaurant~
Once it gets a bit cooler, sitting outside to eat would be great too.

Is Horse Taco Soje good for solo dining?
Horse Taco Soje has a group table near the entrance and a bar table further inside, which makes it a comfortable spot to eat alone. There's a long mirror in front of the bar table so... I felt a bit less lonely. I'm dating myself.
Open the door and it's like a Mexico trip begins~ I didn't bring my passport but somehow managed to get in, phew. From the music playing to the rough-edged interior to all the little props on display, the local vibe is strong.
Spotted a nightshirt taco.

Horse Taco Soje menu and how to order
You order at Horse Taco Soje using the kiosk near the entrance. The menu is made up of tacos, burritos, and nacho snacks. Tacos come in birria, camarón, mac taco, and carnitas depending on the filling. Birria tacos can only be ordered starting from 2 pieces!

So I had no choice~ I ordered 2 birria tacos, a camarón taco, and a Horse Snack!

Each seat comes equipped with disposable gloves, napkins, and wet wipes. Tacos really are a hands-on food.

There's even instructions on the wall for how to eat a taco. I didn't realize it, but looking in the mirror, that's exactly what I was doing. The upside of eating tacos alone: you can forget about your face and just dig in.

Horse Taco Soje has an open kitchen, so you can watch the cooking happen! While I was taking photos, the owner suddenly started putting on... a straw hat.... hahahaha

They brought all the food out at once. Yes, I really was dining alone.

Why do birria tacos come in orders of 2?
The birria taco (bucchaesal, or beef brisket flap) at Horse Taco Soje wasn't chewy at all — it was tender with deep meaty flavor. With a light squeeze of lime, the shell was crispy and the size was just right for a single bite 👍🏻
You dip it into the sauce they give you. I thought about why it's only sold from 2 pieces up — maybe it's their way of saying don't bother adding more later, just order two from the start~~ It was that good.

Is the camarón taco worth ordering even when you're full?
The camarón taco at Horse Taco Soje isn't just shrimp — it's fried shrimp. Game over. I debated whether to order it worrying I'd get too full, but it turned out to be a dish I was so glad I ordered. Maybe next time I should try the camarón bowl.

Why the Horse Snack ranked first
Horse Snack was the number one thing I ordered at Horse Taco Soje that day. I remembered enjoying walking tacos in Euljiro, so I ordered this to compare — and wow... I think this one's better than that.
They pile on plenty of toppings and sauce too. Apparently if you order the Dorilocos, they serve it right in the bag, and honestly I'd love to carry that around and eat it all day.

What to order at Horse Taco Soje
There's no way there'll be leftovers to eat once I'm dead haha. Anyway, I think they really nailed the menu lineup. If you're unsure what to order, just follow what I got. Personally, my ranking was Horse Snack → camarón → birria, from best to good!
I walked out a complete taco addict. Coming to Daejeon, duruchigi (stir-fried pork) and gukbap (rice soup) are great, but give tacos a try too. Horse Taco Soje is easy to get to near Daejeon Station, and right next to the Soje-dong café street, so it makes a great addition to your travel course 💕
