Jeju bakery where a picky eater ate four madeleines: Today Jeju

Whenever I travel around Jeju, I always end up hunting for Jeju souvenirs or gifts. From presents for family and friends to light snacks to share at the office, figuring out what to buy in Jeju is honestly a bit of a puzzle. On this trip I found somewhere a little special that still feels unmistakably Jeju — Today Jeju, a shop packed with dol hareubang (stone grandfather statue) madeleines.

Where is Today Jeju, and do you have to enter the duty-free store?

Today Jeju is located at 69 Noyeon-ro, Jeju-si, inside the Shilla Duty Free complex, but it's not tucked inside the duty-free store itself — I found it without ever stepping into the building. It sits on the outside of the building, on the way to the parking lot, so even someone as directionally challenged as me found it easily. No need to wander into the Shilla Duty Free building and then circle back to find the shop — you can walk straight in from outside.

If you're stopping for gifts near the end of your Jeju trip, the location works out well since it's not far from Jeju Airport. Especially on that last day when your bags are heavy and time is tight, hunting for a shop can be a real chore — but Today Jeju was pretty easy to find, which I really appreciated, haha.

Tangerine-colored interior and the smell of madeleines baking at Today Jeju

Stepping through the door at Today Jeju, the first thing that catches your eye is an interior filled with tangerine orange. It's the color that naturally comes to mind with Jeju, so the moment I walked in, the Jeju mood hit immediately, haha.

As soon as I stepped inside, the shop was filled with a warm, sweet madeleine smell~!! My eyes were on the colorful dol hareubang madeleines while my nose picked up that sweet, nutty scent, and I naturally stopped in my tracks.

Browsing the pretty souvenirs is nice, but with the smell of what seems like freshly baked pastries layered on top, exploring the shop was even more fun. Eating well is never a loss, right~~

Dol hareubang-shaped madeleines in all sorts of colors are displayed all over the shop, and they're genuinely adorable. It's not just plain madeleines lined up — shaping them into dol hareubang, an image that represents Jeju, made it feel like a proper Jeju souvenir the moment you saw them.

Every single one was a different color, so the display itself was pretty. They photograph well thanks to all that color, and I imagine the person receiving them as a gift would be happy opening the box and finding something this cute. A space absolutely bursting with Jeju vibes!

Between the warm madeleine smell and the colorful dol hareubang in front of me, I found myself wondering who came up with this idea. Just hearing the name gives off Jeju vibes, but visiting in person made it feel even more Jeju than I expected, and browsing around was genuinely fun.

Harubangne 8-flavor gift set: even a picky friend ate three or four

This time I brought home the Harubangne 8-flavor gift set from Today Jeju. It had a wide range of flavors — tangerine, matcha, carrot, baengnyeoncho (prickly pear cactus), Earl Grey, black sesame, chocolate, and fig — so trying each one was a lot of fun.

I brought some as a gift, and my picky, particular friend said she wasn't going to eat any — but after I put one bite in her mouth, she said it was delicious and ended up polishing off three? four? on her own^^

Harubang Sand, egg tarts and baengnyeoncho-coated madeleines

Today Jeju doesn't just sell dol hareubang madeleines!! They also carry Harubang Sand and egg tarts! Having a range of Jeju-flavored options to choose from was a nice touch.

What surprised me was the madeleine coated in baengnyeoncho (prickly pear cactus). Using this Jeju specialty gives it a prettier color, and I was curious whether it tastes different from a regular madeleine, hahaha.

Today Jeju carries a lot of products built around the dol hareubang image unique to Jeju, so hunting for Jeju souvenirs here was fun too.
