Over the weekend, I went out for a delicious family meal, and I wanted to introduce a place I was really happy with lately. It was Deomasitneun Jokbal Bossam Seochungju Branch (더맛있는족발보쌈 서충주점) in Chungju. I really love jokbal, so I eat it fairly often. This place was so good—from the food and the generous spread to the service and the atmosphere—that I had to tell you about it.

A family jokbal meal in Seochungju
Various standing signs and banners caught my eye out front.

The signs said they would set a proper full table even for a single jokbal order, and the wording about their quality ingredients showed real confidence in the food. My expectations went right up.

We visited at around 5 p.m. on a weekend. Since it was still early for dinner, we could take our time. Inside, a clean, orderly dining room greeted us. It was not enormous, but it was not too small either—just a cozy, nicely sized space that would suit a date, a family meal, or a relaxed get-together with friends.

There was also a baseball game playing on a TV at one side of the restaurant, and they sold chilled drinks as well.

Being able to have delicious jokbal with a cold beer while watching baseball sounded great. I thought it would be a really nice spot for sports fans, or for anyone wanting to unwind while catching a game.

A generous spread even with a small jokbal order
After looking over the menu, we ordered the small jokbal. One especially nice thing here was that even with a small order, sundubu-jjigae (soft tofu stew) and jaengban-guksu (tray noodles) came as part of the standard service.

The standard spread was already so plentiful that we did not need to order lots of extra sides, which made it feel like great value.
The jokbal was made by boiling fresh Korean pork hocks that very same day, and there was not even the slightest unpleasant smell.

The meat was moist and tender. The soft, chewy skin and tender lean meat were such a delicious match that it felt like a flavor anyone, young or old, could enjoy.

The jokbal was wonderful on its own, but we tried it in lots of combinations too. We wrapped it in fresh ssam vegetables, and putting it over the spicy-sweet, generously portioned bibim makguksu (mixed buckwheat noodles) that came with the meal was simply amazing. It was also delicious with a little salted shrimp and pungent garlic, or alongside deeply savory kimchi.
Steamed egg and rice balls for the kids
Since we visited with the kids, we also ordered a steamed egg and rice-ball set that they would like.

The kids ate so well after we cut the jokbal into small pieces and served it with the steamed egg and rice-ball set.

The fluffy, soft steamed egg bubbling away in a ttukbaegi (earthenware pot), along with the nutty rice balls, seemed just right for the kids' tastes too.
Discounts and a convenient self-service bar
With the warm intention of supporting soldiers, police officers, firefighters, pregnant women, and good neighbors in the area, this place offers a 10% dine-in discount when you show a public-service ID, maternity record book, or badge. It was heartwarming to see such thoughtful consideration and a discount program for people who work for the country and those nurturing new life.

There was also a self-service bar in the restaurant, where we could freely use the side dishes and tableware we needed. It was so convenient to pick up small plates, disposable gloves, and various side dishes without feeling self-conscious. The owner and staff were all kind as well, so we could enjoy our meal comfortably from start to finish.

From the food and generous service to the clean restaurant and kind hospitality, everything at Deomasitneun Jokbal Bossam Seochungju Branch was perfect. The atmosphere was pleasant and comfortable, making it great for a date, an intimate weekend meal with family, a gathering with friends, or even a company dinner. I really want to recommend it to fellow jokbal lovers—if you are looking for delicious jokbal near Seochungju, do give it a visit.
