Roomy Konkuk Univ. rice bowl spot: cube steak & daechang for 2, Hekbap

Today I went to Hekbap Konkuk University Main Branch (핵밥 건대본점), a great spot near Konkuk Univ.~ The place is spacious and the ordering system works so well that it's easy to just relax and eat~ I think it'd be perfect for dining solo too.

Hekbap is open every day from 11:00 to 21:00, with a break from 15:00 to 16:30 and last order at 20:30. Takeout, delivery and reservations are available, but there's no parking.

How to get to Hekbap Konkuk University Main Branch

Just keep walking straight from Konkuk Univ. Station Exit 2 and you'll find it without trouble~

There's a menu board with pictures at the entrance, so you can check it out beforehand~

Is Hekbap Konkuk University Main Branch good for eating alone?

Hekbap is a rice bowl (donburi) and ramen restaurant, and the space is seriously huge! Look at all those window seats. It's perfect for eating solo, and being able to see outside makes it even better.

We sat at the very back. With such a big space, I felt really comfortable, haha. The tables are wide and there's lots of room between them, which I loved.

There are solo seats like these too, so I think you can eat comfortably on your own.

• Don't mix it; scoop it up with a spoon
• Top it with the meat and toppings
• Put rice, toppings, meat and wasabi on your spoon in that order

I also found a fun little book while waiting. It's a fortune-telling thing: my boyfriend got 'trust your first instinct,,' lol. Mine said my image will change~ There were lots of diamonds, so does that mean money..?

There are also disposable aprons hanging on the wall, which seem handy~ I didn't use one, though!

Before eating, I grabbed wasabi, pickled radish and kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) from the self bar~

Cube steak bowl and Hanwoo daechang bowl: taste and portions

I had the cube steak bowl and my boyfriend had the Hanwoo daechang bowl. Prices just over ₩10,000,, and lots of meat, big portions,, and the sides come out this nicely too?!

The salad with sesame dressing really got my appetite going,, (I love this sesame dressing so much,,)

And look at this cube steak bowl!! The meat was cooked just right and not tough at all, and there were lots of mushrooms, which were tasty.

Dig in like this!! See the shishito peppers in the back,, I feel like those peppers really bring out the flavor!

Hanwoo daechang bowl

The Hanwoo (Korean beef) daechang bowl came out too, with a raw egg on top and loaded with daechang. Plump daechang.. since it's Hanwoo, the skin isn't chewy at all and was so tender.

There are bits in it, and how do I put it,, they're chewy, with a nice bite.

And my boyfriend squeezed out wasabi and put it on top too, haha

Dessert cheese rice cake and Pepsi Lime

And the cheese rice cake, great as a dessert! It's brushed with a thin, runny honey on the outside.

It's a honey rice cake (kkultteok) with cheese inside, and the outside is crispy, so it's crispy outside, soft inside, just as it should be!

Having Pepsi Lime in between and washing it all down was so good,, I love Pepsi Lime..

On the way out there's candy too, so the owner's thoughtfulness really shows~ My boyfriend asked me to take a photo of it and use it as the thumbnail, lol. He must have been impressed(?)

Hekbap near Konkuk Univ. is an easy, low-pressure place to eat, with fair prices, a spacious room and solo tables. And the owner was kind too, which made it even better!
